Shang-Chi was raised to become an assassin by his father, Fu Manchu, in the comics. Shang-Chi defected after his first assignment just like in the movie.

Razor Fist is a general bad guy that has gone up against many heroes in the Marvel universe including Shang-Chi, Wolverine, Hawkeye, and Colleen Wing.

The Ten Rings was invented for the MCU and is a recent addition to the comics. The name is a nod to the Mandarin’s rings.

The Mandarin is a baddie that is associated with Iron Man in the comics. He doesn’t really have anything to do with Shang-Chi.

The Dweller-in-Darkness from the Shang-Chi movie is a descendent of Cthulu and first appeared in a Thor comic.

Death Dealer was a double agent working at the MI6 while also working for Fu Manchu until the head of MI6 hired Shang-Chi to take him out.

Cthulu is an ancient evil being that was created by H. P. Lovecraft and is in the public domain.

Ayesha the High Priestess is closely associated with Adam Warlock in the comics. The Sovereigns don’t exist in the comics.

Ego the living planet isn’t Peter Quill’s father and isn’t a Celestial.

Mantis was trained in martial arts by the Kree who thought she would become the Celestial Madonna.

Yondu is a Centaurian. Yondu's "whistle arrow" is not in the comics.  He was in the original Guardians of the Galaxy.

You can see why he’s called Taserface in the comics. Also, he’s ridiculous.

The original Guardians of the Galaxy was Vance Astro, Martinex T'Naga, Captain Charlie-27, and Yondu Udonta. Later members included Stakar Ogord, Aleta Ogord, and Nikki.

Adam Warlock played a key role in defeating Thanos in the comics. Not sure what Marvel plans to do with him at this point, if anything.

Wakanda is a small African nation that is the most technologically advanced on Earth.

Dora Milaje are the personal bodyguards of the Black Panther.

M'Baku had a problematic Gorilla costume in the Black Panther comics, but the character was handled very well in the MCU.

Ulysses Klaue was the son of a Nazi war criminal and smuggled Vibranium out of Wakanda with help from Hydra.

Killmonger in the comics was a Wakandan boy kidnapped by an associate of Ulysses Klaue.

Black Panther by Christopher Priest

Dane Whitman was cursed by an inherited sword to become The Black Knight. He doesn’t have anything to do with The Eternals in the comics.

Sersi is a fan favorite among the Eternals because of her association with the Avengers.

Deviants were created by The Celestials through a mutation of Homo Erectus for a grand experiment on Earth.

Celestials are cosmic beings responsible for the creation of Deviants, Eternals, and the X-Gene on Earth.

We talk about What If… T’Challa Became a Star-Lord? and the things you missed if you never read the comics. Hear about the Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda, The Collector, Howard the Duck, Cosmo, and more!

The Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda was started by T'Challa to search for the origin of the asteroid that deposited Vibranium in Wakanda.

Howard the Duck is the first Marvel first feature length movie.

The Collector is one of the oldest beings in the universe. Absurdly, his species is supposed to be one of the first to evolve after the Big Bang.

Cosmo is modeled after the canine Cosmonauts of the Soviet Space Program, but his name comes from “Cosmonaut” instead of any of the actual dogs’ names.

Rest in peace, Chadwick.

We talk about What If… Captain Carter Were The First Avenger? and the things you missed if you never read the comics. Hear about The Watcher, Captain Carter, Captain Britain, Hydra Stomper, Cthulhu, and more!

Uatu the Watcher is a member of the oldest species in the universe and is supposed to merely observe and compile knowledge but he is known to have helped the Fantastic Four. (voiced by Jeffery Wright!)

Listen to our podcast about Captain America: The First Avenger to get more insight into this episode.

What if Steve Rogers got shot by a Hydra agent right before becoming a super soldier? Captain Carter is what.

Captain Britain is from the comics and he carried a sword instead of a shield.

Hydra Stomper is very similar to Tony Stark's Mark I Iron Man suit.

Cthulhu apparently doesn’t have any relation to Hyrda in the comics but it should have.
