The first (and maybe last?) Marvel show of the year is all finished and we break it down. Was it a success? Do we want to see more of Maya and the gang? What is rizz? And what about that post credit scene? We talk about it all on this episode of the Super Sideshow podcast!

The circumstances of the death of Maya’s dad is similar to the comics, but not completely identical.

The Kingpin is alive! And he wants Maya to be the Queenpin. Did you even know that was a thing? We didn't! Learn about the dark event that turned Wilson Frisk into a monster. Does Maya share the same fate? Find out in the latest episode of Super Sideshow podcast!

Show notes.

The comics never went into real detail about the Kingpin, but there are some similarities. Oh, and in the comics, he was a sumo wrestler!

https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Wilson_Fisk_(Earth-616)

The show doesn’t really tell about any businesses Frisk runs, but in the comics, Frisk owned Stark-Fujikawa.

https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Stark-Fujikawa

The Maya origin story would be more interesting with Daredevil in the mix, but there were probably production reasons that didn’t happen.

In the comics, it’s not really clear if Echo is a mutant or not (I think she is), but her only ability is photographic reflexes. She doesn’t display the powers we see in this episode (unless you count her Phoenix powers).

There’s an actual gang war in the comics right now, and it’s pretty cool!

They really, REALLY need to do more with Captain Carter.

This is based on the Dark Phoenix saga, probably the most well known and most referenced comic story line ever.

Jean’s history is….complicated.

Vuk and the aliens in the movie aren’t really anything, so don’t really worry about it.

But, the Dark Phoenix did kill over an entire planet of them.

The director, Simon Kinberg, is actually pretty good and has produced lots of comic properties.

We look at the re-imagined X-men! After the terrible X-men: The Last Stand, can this movie fix some of the problems? Who are all these characters? And how much is comic accurate? Find out on this edition of Super Sideshow Podcast!

Follow. Subscribe. Rate. Review. Thumbs up. Give us all the Stars!

Show notes.

The movie is based on the comic, which is probably one of the most important comics for X-men or Marvel.  In the comic, Kitty does send her mind into the past and Mystique is connected to an assassination attempt.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Days_of_Future_Past

This was easily the best movie, and most successful, movie of the X-men franchise. And it fixes all the problems from X-men: The Last Stand.

https://movieweb.com/x-men-days-of-future-past-best-why/

Bishop is a time-traveller in the comics, coming from a future much like the one in the movie. But, we don’t know much about his situation in the movie. Still, it’s cool he was in the movie.

https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Lucas_Bishop_(Earth-1191)

Yes,  Quicksilver is Magneto’s son. But, things are always complicated in the comics.

https://www.marvel.com/articles/comics/scarlet-witch-and-magneto-history-in-the-comics

The ending with Mystique doesn’t make a bunch of sense, especially if you watch the next movies.

https://screenrant.com/x-men-days-future-past-stryker-twist-explained/

There is a “Rogue cut” that has lots of interesting changes to the original.

https://screenrant.com/xmen-days-future-past-rogue-cut-every-change/

The end credit scene is so cool!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EywrnmHS73o

Apparently, Bryan Singer was not easy to work with.

https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/films/news/halle-berry-bryan-singer-x-men-days-of-future-past-set-fights-clash-b421349.html

Some cool trivia from IMDB about this movie…

“Sir Patrick Stewart and Sir Ian McKellen had make-up applied to look twenty years older than their actual ages.”

“For her role as Mystique, Jennifer Lawrence had worn full-body prosthetics in X-Men: First Class (2011), consisting of appliances that were glued onto her body. However, not only were these uncomfortable, she also became unwell from inhaling particles coming from these appliances, and the make-up department couldn't guarantee that these weren't bad for her health. For this sequel, Lawrence would only return if they found a way around this, so a special bodysuit was created for her that was safer and much easier to put on.”

“When Matthew Vaughn was going to direct, he was going to make this movie a direct sequel to X-Men: First Class (2011), and have it set in the 1970s. Early ideas included an opening with the Kennedy assassination being caused by Magneto, and mutant encounters set during the Civil Rights movement and the Vietnam War. When Singer took over, he integrated these concepts into a viral marketing campaign to set up the action of the movie.”
