This week on Superhero Slate Spider-Man swings into theaters, Blanka makes his Street Fighter debut, Jumanji hits the Open World, and more!
GenCon – Mystic Curling Club, Hoxfall, Marvel Multiversus RPG (Secret Wars)
News

October 16
Booster Gold (22:55)
David Jenkins says his version of Booster Gold series for DCU not moving forward
Show will still go on with a new creative team
Wonder Man (25:45)
Season 2 canceled after announcement of renewal earlier this year
Writers room hadn’t opened, with all production team released to pursue other projects
Showrunner Andrew Guest put some info out on Tiktok
“I feel how you all feel. And I just want to clear up what I can here. This is not a marketing stunt. There is no movie in the works. And Destin’s schedule, and no one’s schedule, was an issue. Yahya, Destin, Sir Ben, and I all loved making this show. All felt passionately about continuing to do it and were eager to. Contracts were signed, schedules were cleared. The writer’s room was supposed to start this month. The production was supposed to begin early next year.”
Reasons?
Destin Daniel Cretton could be moving on to other projects like Spider-Man 5 or Shang-Chi 2
Character could be moved to theatrical team up, possibly Shang-Chi 2
Renewal was promotional stunt to see if more people watched it under the assumption a second season was happening
Marvel could be done with streaming live action series (probably was not cheap with academy award winners)
Blade (33:12)
Mahershala Ali confirms project at Marvel isn’t going forward
At least not with him

Likely to start filming within a month or so
Spider-Man: Brand New Day (43:10)
Currently eyeing between $340-370 million opening weekend; maybe $355
Possibly beating Avengers Endgame’s $357m, which was biggest opening of all time
Looking at $925m worldwide opening
Characters include Spider-Man, Punisher, the Hulk, Scorpion, Boomerang, Tombstone, Ramrod, Tarantula, The Hand, and …

June 19Designing Dragon Ball Z: The Board Game Saga with Tommy Gofton
Get ready to power up! On this special bonus episode of Superhero Slate, Chris and guest host Patrick sit down with prolific game designer and founder of Lynnvander Studios, Tommy Gofton, to talk about his explosive new Kickstarter campaign: Dragon Ball Z: The Board Game Saga.
This game is a true survivor, having spent nearly a decade in licensing and development limbo across multiple publishers before finally breaking through to fully fund in just fifteen minutes! Tommy shares the incredible story of the game’s resurrection, how his background in film helped shape his design philosophy, and why designing for massive IPs sometimes means throwing your own ego out of the window.
We dive deep into the game’s actual mechanics, exploring:
The Pendulum System: Why you actually have to “fail to progress” and take a beating in order to scale your power level—just like a true Saiyan!
Stress as Health: How combining physical damage and psychic energy into a single “Stress” track cut down on creator’s bloat to keep the gameplay fast and accessible.
Breaking Canon: Why the game lets you pit Yamcha against Perfect Cell on Namek, and how the Boss Decks adapt to keep the scaling balanced no matter who is in your party.
Cardboard vs. Miniatures: Why opting out of “74 waves of plastic” kept this massive game incredibly affordable and lightning-fast to produce.
Plus, Tommy gives us a sneak peek of what Lynnvander is bringing to Gen Con (Booth 518)—including a celebrity D&D stream with the cast of Arcane and Overwatch!
Whether you’re a die-hard Z-Fighter or a board game design nerd, this is one episode you do not want to miss.
