Mention the Salem witch trials and images of 1600’s Massachusetts instantly come to mind.  But in 1982, one young woman found herself imprisoned, accused of the very same crime, along with a charge of attempted murder.

Carol Compton was a 20 year old nanny, transplanted in Italy after following her service man beau home after a short whirlwind romance.  Within days of settling in at the home of her new employer, strange things began to happen.

After a series of small unexplained fires and religious relics being ripped from the walls by unseen hands, 2 different families were convinced poor Carol was to blame, and both reported the activity to local authorities.

Imprisoned for 16 months, Compton was charged with witchcraft.  Jurors were so terrified of her reported supernatural powers, that they insisted the young woman be kept in an iron cage whenever she was in the courtroom.

Was this a case of witchcraft, used with malicious intent?  Or could it have been a poltergeist, brought about by repressed psychic abilities?

Elizabeth Klarer was one of the first women to make claims of being abducted by aliens.  In the 1950's, South Africa wasn't the sort of place you'd expect to hear about paranormal activity taking place.  But in actuality, it was the birth place of a love affair born between an Earth woman and a flaxen haired spaceman named Akon.

The Amherst Poltergeist Mystery.

C -  Say the word “poltergeist” and images of movies instantly come to mind.   

From the little girl next door whose house harbors malevolent entities, to depictions of supposed “true stories”, that show victims writhing in agony, almost solely controlled by evil unseen forces.

But in the town of Amherst, Nova Scotia in 1878, these happenings were very real.  Having been witnessed and documented by many well known locals, the case that involved a 19 year old girl even became the subject of a book.

A -  “The Great Amherst Mystery”, as it became known, is one of the most terrifying cases of poltergeist activity to come out of Canada.  And questions still linger today regarding the source of these strange events.
