What’s the show about?

Well, like the name suggests, our show can be about anything and everything, as I (Pete D. Gaskell) round up a number of terrific podcast hosts and proceed to strip away their inhibitions and ruin their reputations! We do have a number of regular features, such as Weird News Headlines, and Talk The Talk – where my guests monologue against the clock on a topic of my choice. The show’s fast-paced, frenetic, free-wheeling and fun!

What can we expect at the SuperPod?

Basically, a condensed version of a regular episode, with a few additional bells and whistles for you lovely listeners! I’ll be inviting on a couple of my favourite guests, along with the Master of Ceremonies for the whole shebang, Al himself, and we’ll be tackling our usual features in our unique style. There’ll be the opportunity to listen to a LIVE Talk the Talk – no place to hide for the guests this time – and I’ll be live-announcing the winner of our I’ll Do Anything competition which has been running since the start of the year!

How did you get into podcasting?

I have had a background in local radio, which coupled with my ability to talk the front and hind legs off a donkey, made podcasting a natural fit. I guested on a few different podcasts before taking the plunge and creating my own – The Word of Nerd Show – in 2015. It was a moderate success, but I increasingly felt hamstrung by the format and wanted to try something a little more wild and wacky. This idea came back to me last year, and, after opening my little black book of contacts, I launched Smorgasbored in October. The rest is history!

Who would be your dream guest?

Oof, so many choices! It would have to be someone willing to go with the flow and enjoy rambling incessantly on any number of topics – so someone like Stephen Fry would be ideal!

What other podcasts do you listen to?

I consider it an obligation to listen to all the podcasts my various guests host, and a great many of them are terrific, so check them out as well. To name some of my absolute favourites, don’t miss Do You Expect Us To Talk?, FilmInk, Fast Forward/Rewind, Don’t You Lose Your Headline, That King Thing, Major’s Mess Hall, The Aussie and the Pom Show and Stacey’s Pop Culture Parlour. LEGEND IN MY SPARETIME!

Legend In My Sparetime debuted in 2009 when host Matt Lees wanted to jump on the podcast bandwagon. As an independent musician playing in Canada and the United States at the time the original focus of the show was the lives of the musicians, their performances and their constant mad-cap adventures.

The show shifted gears when Lees moved back to the UK and now features two hereto BFF’s (That’ll be Matt and ‘Just’ John). They each assume they’re smartest, funniest and manliest podcaster alive and are never afraid to share their views on anything they seem fit.

Movies and TV shows, comics books, toys, video games are just a few things that can set them off on an epic rant.

Often joined by friends, family and special guests from the podcast world it’s never the same show twice!

With just over a week until the SuperPod hits the air it’s time to take another look at one of our featured podcasts. And this time it’s…

THE AHHGEE PODCAST!

Team AhhGee are two gentle fellows, Andy Harland and Michael Bell (of the Internet). They want to spread love, peace and joy to the world, but they realise that is quite an ambitious target so will settle for making folk laugh.

Usually there’s a third member of the team, but sadly said third party was unable to make the live SuperPod show due to poor life choices.

How long has your show been going?

Our podcast is 38 months now, it’s nearly ready to go out and fend for itself. I can remember when it was a baby, a naughty, sweary rambling baby… oh how time flies.

What is your show about?

The podcast is about everything and literally nothing,

a weekly round up of our lives, news roundups, adventures, drama, a psychic horse… you know; the usual. It has since spawned two Live fringe shows and is next to appear at the Brighton Fringe at the end of May.

What can we expect from you at SuperPod?

Oh lots of things.

Yes things and indeed stuff that has been meticulously planned out and well rehearsed.

If at any point it looks like we are blagging it that is merely our fantastic acting and improvisational skills….It will be a laugh anyway.

How did you get into podcasting?

Mike: One night I was herding my sheep, as is my want of an evening.

And I saw this bright star in the sky, thought nothing of it and went to bed.

The next day same thing. This happened for about a week and I thought to myself, right lets have a looksie and see what this is.

So, I followed this damned star for weeks and weeks and arrived at a small town, there was some sort of commotion happening in a barn, Everyone seemed to know each other, I didn’t want to disturb, so I went to the pub met these guys and now we are a podcast.

Andy: I was lonely and wanted a shepherd to talk to each week.

Who would be your dream guest?

Kriss Akabusi, he’s seems really enthuastic and has a great laugh, even if it was pity laughter we would feel good.

THE DREDGELAND PODCAST SPECTACULAR

Lunatic comedy double act DredgeLand – aka John Dredge and Andy Harland – have been podcasting together for a year, although both have been podcasting separately for about three years now.

“We’ve been together now for forty years. Four years, sorry.”

The duo have also done a six month weekly show on Wandsworth Radio from which their current podcast sprang and sprung.

The show is generally John & Andy talking nonsense and being stupid and at SuperPod you can expect an hour of nonsense and general weirdness.

“How did you get into podcasting?  The door was open.”

Dredgeland have also conducted interviews with comedians such as Robin Ince and Iain Lee, while they cite Bernie Clifton as their dream guest.
