Devin: What is your superpower?
David: Ability to easily explain complex topics to people and then get them to think bigger and believe that it’s possible.
Blue Mahoe Capital stands at the forefront of addressing Jamaica’s affordable housing crisis, driven by a vision that unites purpose and profit. Led by Chairman and CEO David Mullings, the firm is poised to deliver quality, climate-resilient homes that meet the needs of families with modest incomes. In today’s episode, David shared how this effort is as much about social impact as it is about creating financial returns.
David explained how the government’s National Housing Trust program provides an ideal foundation to address the urgent need for housing following a devastating hurricane in 2025. “Jamaica needs 150,000 houses, yet we’re building less than 5,000 annually,” he said. Blue Mahoe Capital is stepping in to bridge this gap, building one- and two-bedroom starter homes—with space for expansion—tailored for first-time buyers. “It’s a true starter home, giving people a climate-resilient house and an opportunity to build equity,” David explained.
Blue Mahoe Capital brings a unique value proposition to investors. By focusing on affordable housing—an area often underserved—they are creating a high-impact portfolio opportunity. These homes are being built with sustainable materials and feature sloped roofs ready for solar panels. Beyond providing shelter, they aim to empower families with the ability to create generational wealth.
David’s background in private equity, hedge funds, and government service makes him uniquely suited for this mission. Blue Mahoe Capital doesn’t just build houses—they forge partnerships with local developers who lack access to the patient capital required to construct affordable homes. “We want to meet people where they are and tackle the housing crisis while delivering returns,” David shared.
Blue Mahoe Capital is currently raising funds through a regulated investment crowdfunding campaign on Silicon Prairie to expand its operations. This presents an opportunity for investors to align their money with their values, providing real returns while making a tangible difference in the lives of thousands of Caribbean families.
David’s vision is clear: to create meaningful socioeconomic impact while building a sustainable business model. That kind of leadership, rooted in purpose and action, is inspiring and essential to solving global challenges.
tl;dr:
This episode featured David Mullings, a leader addressing Jamaica’s housing crisis through impact investing.
Blue Mahoe Capital builds affordable, climate-resilient homes that align with Jamaica’s National Housing Trust program.
The firm provides investment opportunities via a crowdfunding campaign on Silicon Prairie, blending purpose and profit.
David’s background in finance helped him simplify challenges and deliver clear pathways for impactful solutions.
His storytelling and strategic approach inspire action, from local communities to global investors.
How to Develop Simplifying Complexity As a Superpower
David’s superpower is his ability to simplify complex concepts and inspire others to think bigger. In today’s episode, he explained, “My superpower is the ability to easily explain complex topics to people and then get them to think bigger and believe that it’s possible.” This skill enables him to connect with diverse audiences—from investors to community leaders—while transforming large-scale challenges into actionable solutions.
David shared a childhood story that highlighted his ability to break down complex ideas. At ten years old, he explained to a friend why he always won at Monopoly: “They were rushing to buy properties and running out of funds to build houses. I waited for strategic properties, focused on steady income through rent, and built houses to limit their options.” By simplifying strategy into actionable steps, even as a child, David demonstrated a knack for teaching others how to approach challenges differently.
Tips for Developing the Superpower:
Study Role Models: Identify experts in the field you wish to master. Analyze their methods.
Practice Storytelling: Learn frameworks like the hero’s journey to share ideas effectively.
Meet People Where They Are: Gauge your audience’s knowledge and tailor explanations accordingly.
Iterate and Refine: Test explanations, seek feedback, and adjust your approach when something doesn’t resonate.
By following David’s example and advice, you can make simplifying complexity a skill. With practice and effort, you could make it a superpower that enables you to do more good in the world.
Remember, however, that research into success suggests that building on your own superpowers is more important than creating new ones or overcoming weaknesses. You do you!

Devin: What is your superpower?
Nicole: I walk into challenges not seeing them as insurmountable. Let’s figure this out.
Nicole Whalen, founder of Green Compass, is revolutionizing urban sustainability by tackling one of the largest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions: buildings. During today’s episode, Nicole explained how her company uses an innovative approach to retrofit commercial properties in Washington, D.C., turning asphalt-covered cities into vibrant green spaces.
“At least 70% of the city’s emissions come from the building sector,” Nicole shared. “Green Compass retrofits them to be no and low carbon, combining clean energy and clean water solutions.”
The standout feature of Green Compass’s work is its emphasis on green stormwater infrastructure. Nicole’s team installs rain gardens, infiltration trenches, and tree canopies to manage runoff water naturally. Their proprietary stormwater retention credit system incentivizes property owners to adopt greener systems by creating financial rewards for reducing pollution and preventing floods.
Nicole offered a glimpse into her process: “We excavate very large holes and backfill them with special sand, soil, and native plants. This captures rain where it falls, preventing it from running off hard surfaces into rivers without treatment.” These systems don’t just mitigate water pollution and flooding—they’re living, carbon-sequestering ecosystems.
The visual transformation of once drab, urban parking lots into vibrant green spaces is a key motivator for the team. Nicole explained, “It’s amazing when we replace asphalt with gardens that bloom with flowers like irises. These changes improve not just the environment but community aesthetics.”
Green Compass’s accomplishments extend beyond environmental impact. By selling over $1 million in stormwater retention credits, the company has proven the viability of its business model. Nicole is currently raising capital via a regulated crowdfunding campaign on Honeycomb Credit to expand Green Compass’s groundbreaking work.
“I’d much rather profit-share with mission-driven investors than big banks,” Nicole confided. Her crowdfunding approach also amplifies the value of her investors’ feedback and insight.
With 10 acres under management, Green Compass is poised to continue scaling its mission of transforming urban landscapes into carbon-sequestering havens. Nicole’s story of combining ambition, innovation, and environmental stewardship is an inspiring call to action for future-focused entrepreneurs.
tl;dr:
Nicole Whalen founded Green Compass to address emissions and urban flooding using green infrastructure.
Green Compass sells stormwater retention credits to incentivize eco-friendly retrofits for buildings.
Efforts include creating rain gardens, tree canopies, and trenches to reduce runoff and beautify cities.
Nicole demonstrates fearless problem-solving by building new markets and doubling down on innovative ideas.
She’s raising funds via Honeycomb Credit, sharing profits with mission-driven investors to scale impact.
How to Develop Fearless Problem-Solving As a Superpower
Nicole’s superpower lies in her mindset of tackling challenges head-on with the question, “How hard can it be?” She explained, “I walk into challenges not seeing them as insurmountable. Let’s figure this out.” This willingness to solve problems with determination and optimism reflects her “lean into change” philosophy, which has steered Green Compass through an unpredictable world.
One standout example of this superpower in action is Nicole’s adoption of stormwater retention credits as a revenue stream for Green Compass. When she founded the company in 2018, this wasn’t part of the plan. But using her knowledge of solar credits, she built a successful model that now accounts for 80% of Green Compass’s revenue, surpassing $1 million to date. Her ability to see opportunities in emerging markets has made her company a pioneer in D.C.’s stormwater credit ecosystem.
Here are her tips to develop fearless problem-solving as a personal strength:
See Change as Opportunity: Lean into uncertainty with faith that new outcomes can be better.
Tackle Challenges Efficiently: Stay calm in adversity and focus on finding actionable solutions.
Adopt a Growth Mindset: Treat every challenge as a learning experience to build resilience and expertise.
Draw Parallels: Apply knowledge from one domain (like solar credits) creatively in other contexts.
By following Nicole’s example and advice, you can make fearless problem-solving a skill. With practice and effort, you could make it a superpower that enables you to do more good in the world.
Remember, however, that research into success suggests that building on your own superpowers is more important than creating new ones or overcoming weaknesses. You do you!

Devin: What is your superpower?
Lauren: We see a problem and we want to solve it… not only for us, we want to solve it for everybody else.
Farmers face tough challenges in today’s world. Small-scale producers often struggle to get their goods to consumers, while buyers eager to support local farms find it difficult to connect. Lauren Lovejoy, founder of the Red Hen App, is solving both problems.
Lauren’s journey into farming wasn’t one she expected. “I am a farmer. I am a first generation,” she explained, adding, “Never thought in a million years I would be a farmer.” Facing health challenges led her to embrace farming and clean eating, ultimately inspiring her to create the Red Hen App.
Designed to function much like marketplaces such as Etsy or Airbnb, the app offers a simple, efficient platform for small farms to list their produce, meat, and other goods. Customers can search, purchase, and either pick up locally, arrange delivery, or have items shipped. “Farming is very difficult, and buying shouldn’t be difficult,” Lauren pointed out. “Let’s make this world easier.”
Lauren revealed the app now boasts participation from farms in 49 states, giving farmers across the country a way to find customers and thrive. “There are farmers in every corner of the country that wanted more access and wanted to make it easier,” she said.
To fund the development and scaling of the app, Lauren turned to regulated crowdfunding. Previously, she executed a successful Honeycomb Credit campaign and is currently raising funds on Wefunder. Discussing the financial realities, she said, “Tech is expensive… I bootstrapped the whole first two-thirds of the app.” Now, with the platform proven, she’s partnering with investors to expand its reach and impact.
Lauren’s passion for enabling small farms to succeed and connecting consumers to local food feels contagious—and her entrepreneurial journey is inspiring. By supporting her crowdfunding campaign or downloading the app, you can help her vision thrive.
Learn more about the Red Hen App at RedHenApp.com or invest via Wefunder.
tl;dr:
Lauren Lovejoy created the Red Hen App to connect small-scale farmers directly with consumers.
The app supports farmers in 49 states, helping them list and sell goods more easily.
Inspired by health challenges, Lauren became both a farmer and tech entrepreneur.
Lauren is raising funds for the app’s development and growth via a Wefunder campaign.
Her superpower, observational problem-solving, drives her passion for sustainable solutions.
How to Develop Observational Problem-Solving As a Superpower
Lauren’s ability to observe problems and craft solutions is remarkable. She shared, “We see a problem and we want to solve it… not only for us, we want to solve it for everybody else.” Lauren’s journey into farming and entrepreneurship is a testament to this superpower. Struggling with health and access to clean, local food inspired her to farm and create the Red Hen App, revolutionizing the connection between farmers and consumers.
Lauren’s farming experience showcases her observational skills. Each day, she assesses her farm’s changing needs due to weather, seasons, or environmental factors. For example, when heavy rain impacts the soil, she moves her animals to protect and regenerate the land for future growth. This mindset helps her actively improve the ecosystem while producing food sustainably.
Tips for Developing the Superpower:
Be Conscious of Problems: Notice recurring challenges and reflect deeply on them.
Identify Patterns: Figure out what triggers the issues and consider long-term solutions.
Simplify Solutions: Focus on making every day processes easier for yourself and others.
Engage with Your Environment: Adapt responses to shifting challenges, such as weather or market changes.
Act on Your Observations: Don’t just spot issues—take steps to address them meaningfully.
By following Lauren’s example and advice, you can make observational problem-solving a skill. With practice and effort, you could make it a superpower that enables you to do more good in the world.
Remember, however, that research into success suggests that building on your own superpowers is more important than creating new ones or overcoming weaknesses. You do you!

Devin: What is your superpower?
Daniel: Combination of curiosity and humility.
What if a single treatment could extend the length and quality of your life—or the lives of your beloved pets? Daniel Oliver, Co-Founder and CEO of Rejuvenate Bio, believes it’s possible and is already making it a reality. Rejuvenate Bio has developed a breakthrough approach, beginning with pets, to address multiple chronic diseases with one therapy.
“We actually have taken the wealth of aging science that’s out there,” Daniel explained, “and have been able to turn them into one-time therapies. Effectively, we’re able to inject a patient—whether it’s a dog, a cat, or a human—and the data suggests we can treat multiple different diseases.”
Daniel shared his excitement about testing these therapies on animals, highlighting initial successes with several high-profile pharmaceutical companies, including Merck’s animal health division, which has also invested in the company. Early results show these treatments not only improve health outcomes but also have the potential to be safe, accessible, and affordable.
Unlike traditional gene therapies for humans, which can cost millions, Rejuvenate Bio’s approach for animals carries a dramatically lower price tag. “We’ve reduced the manufacturing costs to the point where we can treat chronic, lifetime diseases at around $100 per dose,” Daniel said. This affordability has broad implications for human treatments too, ensuring accessibility beyond just the wealthy elite.
Beyond the practical applications, the mission of Rejuvenate Bio is deeply human. Chronic diseases, Daniel noted, account for enormous healthcare costs and significant suffering. He envisions a future where people and pets alike can experience more healthy years together. “What if,” he posed, “instead of a laundry list of side effects, new treatments came with a list of novel benefits?”
Rejuvenate Bio is currently hosting an equity crowdfunding campaign on Wefunder, inviting anyone to invest and be part of their journey. This move aligns with Daniel’s vision of building a community of supporters who share the mission. “We want folks to come in, become evangelists for our technology, and grow with us,” he said.
tl;dr:
Daniel Oliver discusses Rejuvenate Bio’s one-time treatments for pets to extend healthy lives.
The therapies have shown promise for treating chronic diseases in animals and potentially humans.
Daniel shares Rejuvenate Bio’s affordability strategy: manufacturing doses for as low as $100.
Rejuvenate Bio’s recent partnerships with Merck and a live Wefunder campaign expand their impact.
Daniel explains how curiosity and humility fuel his leadership at Rejuvenate Bio, emphasizing collaboration.
Daniel’s company offers exciting hope—not just for the families whose pets will lead healthier lives, but for society as it considers how this innovation could reshape human healthcare.
How to Develop Curiosity and Humility As a Superpower
Daniel attributes his success to a combination of curiosity and humility. “When you’re doing these types of startup companies, you’re never going to come to the table with all the skills and experiences you need,” Daniel said. His curiosity drives him to seek knowledge and advice, while his humility allows him to admit there is always more to learn. By embracing these values, Daniel has built an adaptable, reflective leadership style that encourages innovation and resilience.
Daniel’s humility and curiosity were tested during his time at Caltech, where the demanding academics overwhelmed him. He learned to collaborate with peers and seek help from teaching assistants to overcome challenges. “The homework problems were not something I could accomplish alone,” he admitted, emphasizing how teamwork and the willingness to learn built his resilience. This experience taught him to embrace failure as a learning opportunity—something he carries into his leadership at Rejuvenate Bio.
Tips for Developing This Superpower
Discipline Yourself to Listen: Focus on understanding the full message rather than preparing an immediate response.
Be Open to Feedback: Acknowledge that there’s always a better way and commit to continuous improvement.
Embrace Collaboration: Recognize that achieving great things often requires the strengths of a team.
Seek Expertise: Learn from others with specialized knowledge, even when you succeed.
Live and Learn: Foster a culture where risk-taking is encouraged and failures become growth opportunities.
By following Daniel’s example and advice, you can make curiosity and humility a skill. With practice and effort, you could make it a superpower that enables you to do more good in the world.
Remember, however, that research into success suggests that building on your own superpowers is more important than creating new ones or overcoming weaknesses. You do you!

Devin: What is your superpower?
Joey: If somebody tells me that they’re doing something, my mind goes in 20 different areas about how I can make a connection that will help them grow.
Successful fundraising is only the beginning. For entrepreneurs, the real opportunity lies in activating their investor communities for support, guidance, and growth. Joey Hayes, founder of thru., believes that crowdfunding investors are untapped reservoirs of human capital that entrepreneurs often overlook.
“Every single entrepreneur out there has a lot of human capital around them,” Joey said during this episode. “Equity crowdfunding ... is overly unoptimized.” He added, “Whenever I ask any entrepreneur, ‘Are you optimizing your network, your human capital?’ They always think about it and they always say no.”
Joey knows this story well. He recalled his own experiences as a crowdfunding investor and entrepreneur, when friction often prevented him from both giving and receiving support. Recognizing this challenge, Joey launched thru., the first “network activation platform” designed to make it easier for entrepreneurs to connect with and engage their crowdfunding investors.
Thru. works by analyzing entrepreneurs’ networks to identify how investors can help and simplifying the outreach process. “We’re making it as easy as possible to understand who your investors are, how they can help, and what to say to them,” Joey said. The platform also incorporates tools for automated updates, ensuring regular and meaningful engagement between founders and their backers.
This matters not only for operational efficiency but also for success. Joey noted that companies that actively engage their investors often perform better, sharing a vivid example of an investor who introduced a major partner. “It was the picture-perfect example of what you’re talking about,” Devin reflected.
Thru. also empowers founders to leverage their resources strategically. “You can’t ask for things until you engage,” Joey explained, emphasizing the importance of maintaining two-way communication.
Joey’s initiative highlights an often-overlooked truth: crowdfunding is not just about raising money. It’s about creating a community of allies who genuinely want to see entrepreneurs succeed. By bridging the gap between entrepreneurs and investors, Joey helps transform dormant shareholder lists into engines of growth and innovation.
If you’re ready to optimize your crowdfunding journey, or if thru. is actively raising capital, now might be the moment to discover how Joey’s vision can help you achieve your goals.
tl;dr:
Joey Hayes discusses thru., a platform helping entrepreneurs activate and engage their crowdfunding investor networks.
Joey explains how friction often prevents investors and founders from collaborating effectively after raising funds.
Thru. simplifies network outreach for entrepreneurs, transforming investor relationships into powerful growth engines.
Joey shares the importance of active updates and engagement to unlock hidden value for businesses.
Joey highlights his superpower of connecting, offering actionable advice for building relationships strategically.
How to Develop Connecting As a Superpower
Joey describes connecting as his superpower and channels it through the work he does with thru., a platform designed to help entrepreneurs engage their networks. “If somebody tells me that they’re doing something, my mind goes in 20 different areas about how I can make a connection that will help them grow,” Joey explained during today’s episode. This innate ability to create valuable connections is the foundation of his mission to “make getting help the easiest part of building a business.”
Joey shared a story about how his knack for connecting created profound value. While attending a hotel technology conference for Booking.com, he serendipitously met a founder he had invested in. This chance encounter led to Joey facilitating a partnership between the company and Booking.com, saving the founder millions of dollars. Joey used this anecdote to illustrate how such serendipity could be manufactured systematically, which is exactly what thru. aims to do.
Tips for Developing the Superpower:
Make Helping Easy: When requesting introductions, write the message for the connector, ready to copy and paste.
Keep It Low Pressure: Don’t demand connections—ask politely and allow the other person space to say no.
Think Strategically: Consider how your network’s strengths align with the needs of others to forge meaningful connections.
By following Joey’s example and advice, you can make connecting a skill. With practice and effort, you could make it a superpower that enables you to do more good in the world.
Remember, however, that research into success suggests that building on your own superpowers is more important than creating new ones or overcoming weaknesses. You do you!

Joey Hayes (he/him):
Founder, thru.
About thru.: Everyone talks about helping startups raise capital, but far less attention is paid to what happens after the raise. At thru., we believe the biggest untapped resource for entrepreneurs is their community: investors, advisors, operators, and supporters who are often willing to help, but rarely know how. The problem is not a lack of goodwill, but a lack of infrastructure.
We help founders understand and segment the network behind their capital, identify the right people for specific business needs, create personalized asks, and track the outcomes. That could mean investor-powered referrals, customer introductions, reviews, hiring leads, partnerships, market expansion support, or future funding opportunities.
thru. is building the first network activation infrastructure to make getting help the easiest part of building a business. We help founders better understand, communicate with, and activate their communities for growth; turning passive capital into active support.
Website: comethru.co
Biographical Information: Originally from New York and now based in Amsterdam, Joey Hayes brings 20 years of experience across hospitality and technology, including 11+ years at Booking.com across Global Accounts and Technology Partnerships. He has also studied at East Carolina University, New York University, and Cornell.
In 2021, while working full-time, Joey opened his first business: a restaurant concept called Mac Shack. The business ultimately failed after two years, leaving him with a difficult but defining insight: one of the hardest parts of entrepreneurship is the cost of isolation.
While looking for his next project, Joey noticed the same pattern across his 65+ portfolio companies. Fundraising created community, energy, and momentum, but once the raise ended, that support often faded. Founders were left with valuable human capital around them, but no easy way to understand, engage, or activate those relationships.
That realization led Joey to work closely with startups, particularly in the equity crowdfunding space, on “network activation.” The potential was clear, but so was the friction: founders often have people willing to help yet asking for and organizing that help is still inefficient, awkward, and reactive.
Now, Joey is building thru. to make getting help the easiest part of building a business — and to make the entrepreneurial journey less lonely, more supported, and more human.

Devin: What is your superpower?
Dr. Carole: I’ve always had the ability to communicate even the most complex problems in a way that anybody can understand.
The toughest battles often require the most creative solutions. Chemotherapy saves lives, but it can also lead to debilitating, lifelong nerve damage—also known as chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN). Dr. Carole Spangler Vaughn, CEO of Eisana Health and a cancer survivor herself, is solving this overlooked problem with a revolutionary product.
Carole discovered that cooling hands and feet during treatment can reduce blood flow, preventing chemo drugs from damaging nerves in these areas. When she was a cancer patient, Carole improvised with baggies of frozen corn. While this crude method helped her avoid nerve damage, she recognized the need for a better, scalable solution. “As a medical innovator, I figured there’d be an easy way for me to do that,” Carole revealed during today’s episode. “But I learned very quickly there’s no solution for cancer patients.” That realization led her to found Eisana Health.
Carole’s innovation is far more advanced than her frozen-corn workaround. Eisana Health’s cooling gloves and booties are safe, portable, and designed for long hours of use. “Cancer patients don’t need to be ice cold or risk frostbite,” Carole explained. “Our products are designed to cool effectively, allowing patients to use their phones, eat, and walk while receiving treatment.”
In addition to Carole’s inspiring story as a scientist-turned-entrepreneur, today’s episode included an announcement about Eisana Health’s crowdfunding campaign on WeFunder. With their 510(k) FDA exemption, Eisana Health plans to launch their product quickly and grow through a phased approach, starting in Houston before scaling nationally. The campaign provides an opportunity for everyone—especially those personally impacted by cancer treatments—to invest in this game-changing technology.
This effort is inspired by Carole’s belief that CIPN outcomes can be avoided with the right tools. “We hear heartbreaking stories, like a foot surgeon who gave up her career after chemo left her unable to safely operate,” Carole shared. “These stories didn’t need to end that way.”
By focusing on a widely unaddressed yet deeply personal need, Carole is transforming her vision into a reality that will help cancer patients everywhere lead better lives. To learn more, visit Eisana Health’s campaign on Wefunder.
tl;dr:
Chemotherapy can cause life-altering nerve damage, which Eisana Health is innovating to prevent.
Cancer survivor Carole Spangler Vaughn founded Eisana Health to address overlooked needs in cancer care.
Eisana’s cooling products aim to prevent nerve damage and improve the chemotherapy experience.
The company is raising funds on Wefunder to scale the product nationally without FDA delays.
Carole shared insights on communication as her superpower, enabling breakthroughs professionally and personally.
How to Develop Communication As a Superpower
Carole’s superpower is her ability to communicate complex ideas in simple, relatable ways. “I’ve always had the ability to communicate even the most complex problems in a way that anybody can understand,” she said during today’s episode. Carole credits her skill not only for helping patients and investors understand her work but also for her success as an entrepreneur navigating technical fields.
Carole shared an anecdote from when she ran a stem cell therapy franchise for pets in Hawaii. She had to explain intricate science to pet owners, like how stem cells extracted from fat could be re-injected to heal arthritic joints. Simplifying complex science while conveying hope enabled her to help clients, ultimately improving the quality of life for countless animals.
Tips for Developing Communication:
Build Confidence: Trust your knowledge and resist the urge to show off or overcomplicate.
Practice Humility: Speak in simple terms and adapt your approach to your audience.
Focus on Clarity: Avoid using technical jargon when simpler words can convey the same idea.
Relate to Your Listener: Use relatable examples or stories to connect and explain.
By following Carole’s example and advice, you can make communication a skill. With practice and effort, you could make it a superpower that enables you to do more good in the world.
Remember, however, that research into success suggests that building on your own superpowers is more important than creating new ones or overcoming weaknesses. You do you!

Devin: What is your superpower?
Deepti: The ability to rise after setbacks and turn challenges into opportunities.
Billions of toothpaste tubes end up in landfills every year, creating an environmental burden that’s hard to ignore. Recognizing this, Deepti Brambl, Founder of Kaylaan, developed an innovative alternative: toothpaste tablets. The eco-friendly product eliminates the need for plastic packaging while providing a healthier, more sustainable oral care solution.
“Toothpaste tablets are not a new concept,” Deepti explained in today’s episode, “but for me, it was important to come up with a solution that is not just plastic-friendly but also chemical-free. All of our products are natural, which ties back to how I was raised.”
Kaylaan has also expanded into mouthwash tablets and patented bamboo electric toothbrushes, solidifying their commitment to green innovation. The toothbrushes, with recycled plastic handles to combat mold growth, are fully compostable striking the balance between sustainability and practicality.
This eco-conscious ethos stems from Deepti’s Nepalese heritage, where everything was reused. After moving to the U.S., she was struck by the plastic waste culture and wanted to create an alternative that redefined oral care. She started small, testing products on Etsy. Her toothpaste tablets stood out, quickly becoming a bestseller thanks to community feedback.
The company’s community-centered approach is evident in the evolution of their product line, including fluoride-based formulas, strawberry- and watermelon-flavored tablets for kids, and neem-based tablets. Customers’ input continues to shape Kaylaan’s innovations: “Whoever came to us with requests, we worked on it,” Deepti noted.
In just a few years, Kaylaan has earned B Corp certification twice, reflecting its strong commitment to sustainability. Revenue from crowdfunding has been instrumental in scaling operations. Deepti highlighted how funds from a $45,000 raise helped move the company into a new facility, upgrade machines, and achieve compliance with FDA and GMP protocols.
Currently, Kaylaan is raising capital through regulated investment crowdfunding on Honeycomb Credit. This presents an exciting opportunity for sustainability-minded investors to support Deepti’s vision of redefining oral care.
Deepti’s journey exemplifies the power of mission-driven innovation. By tackling environmental challenges head-on, Kaylaan is demonstrating how purpose and profitability can coexist in harmony.
tl;dr:
Kaylaan develops eco-friendly toothpaste tablets to reduce waste and promote sustainable dental care.
Deepti Brambl draws inspiration from her Nepalese heritage to drive innovation at Kaylaan.
Crowdfunding on Honeycomb Credit has empowered Kaylaan to scale operations and achieve regulatory compliance.
Customer feedback has shaped Kaylaan’s diverse products, including fluoride-based and neem-flavored options.
Deepti’s resilience and passion for sustainability have propelled Kaylaan’s mission to new heights.
How to Develop Resilience As a Superpower
Deepti’s superpower is resilience—the ability to rise after setbacks and turn challenges into opportunities. She explained, “You fall as many times as possible, because that’s where real creativity, real strength, and real learning happen.” Her perseverance fuels Kaylaan, as Deepti embraces obstacles as steppingstones for growth, strength, and creativity.
Deepti vividly recounted the 10-hour ordeal of relocating a 5,000-pound tablet-press machine to a new manufacturing facility. After renting a forklift that couldn’t manage the task, she worked with a team of local professionals to resolve the situation. Despite setbacks, her persistence resulted in more efficient production and significant quality improvements for Kaylaan’s products.
Tips to Develop Resilience:
View challenges as opportunities for creativity and growth.
Accept failure as part of learning and keep moving forward.
Build strong community and business relationships for support during tough circumstances.
Prioritize preparation upfront to avoid costly mistakes later.
Embrace the idea that obstacles are a pathway to innovation and strength.
By following Deepti’s example and advice, you can make resilience a skill. With practice and effort, you could make it a superpower that enables you to do more good in the world.
Remember, however, that research into success suggests that building on your own superpowers is more important than creating new ones or overcoming weaknesses. You do you!

Devin: What is your superpower?
Darnell: Ability to transform overlooked and neglected things—whether it’s a building, a community, or people—into valuable and thriving assets.
When a retired Detroit Battalion Fire Chief sees an abandoned firehouse, they don’t just see the past—they see the potential. That’s exactly how Darnell Stewart approached the 126-year-old firehouse he has owned for decades, envisioning it as more than just a structure, but as a hub of life and community for Detroit.
Darnell is bringing that vision to life by transforming the firehouse into a co-living community for first responders, traveling medical professionals, and other essential workers. He calls it The Firehouse Detroit. “We like the Firehouse Detroit to be a community hub for those individuals, whether or not they’re visiting the city or here on training,” he explained during today’s episode.
This project is designed not just to honor the history of the old fire station but also to provide practical, modern functionality for a sector of workers who are vital to our communities. The vision integrates dormitory-style accommodation, training facilities, and spaces to relax and connect with others from similar fields. It’s about creating a space where professionals who serve others can recharge and build camaraderie in an environment that feels like home.
Turning this long-abandoned building into a thriving community hub hasn’t been without challenges, however. Traditional financing wasn’t an option for the project. “We’ve also been told that the firehouse is such a unique project that a lot of lenders don’t feel comfortable,” Darnell shared. That’s why he turned to the power of regulated crowdfunding through the Small Change platform.
Crowdfunding has enabled him to turn obstacles into opportunities, inviting the community to be a part of his mission. “Small Change was an excellent option in order to allow other individuals to come onto the project,” he said.
Darnell’s efforts represent both a labor of love and a bold entrepreneurial move to preserve Detroit’s history while addressing practical needs in the community. With the campaign underway, he’s pushing forward, inviting all of us to share in the dream of transforming something abandoned into something vital.
After decades of service to Detroit’s Fire Department, Darnell isn’t done giving back. Instead, he’s just getting started.
tl;dr:
Darnell Stewart is turning a 126-year-old Detroit firehouse into a co-living hub for first responders.
The Firehouse Detroit will include dormitory-style living, training areas, and spaces for community connection.
Crowdfunding via Small Change is enabling community engagement and project funding despite traditional lending challenges.
Darnell’s superpower is seeing potential in neglected things and transforming them into valuable assets.
Restoring properties has allowed Darnell to uplift neighborhoods, inspire change, and continue giving back to Detroit.
How to Develop Seeing Potential As a Superpower
Darnell’s remarkable superpower is his ability to transform overlooked and neglected things—whether it’s a building, a community, or people—into valuable and thriving assets. “Even being with the fire service for over 35 years, when things got messy, we were trained in order to keep things moving,” he explained. His belief that nothing is ever so broken that it can’t be restored drives every project he takes on, from abandoned homes to forgotten firehouses.
Darnell shared how he has spent decades restoring neglected residential properties in Detroit, a city that has seen both highs and lows. One project involved turning a particularly worn-down home into a “shining star” for its neighborhood. By investing in its restoration, Darnell not only transformed the property but also uplifted the entire street’s morale, inspiring other residents to improve their neighboring homes. It’s a small example of how his vision ignites bigger change.
Tips for Developing This Superpower:
Look beyond current flaws to identify the potential in people, projects, or places.
Stay committed to restoration or improvement, even when faced with significant obstacles.
Seek out role models and mentors who have overcome similar challenges to guide your efforts.
Maintain a clear vision of the “end game” and trust that someone has solved similar problems before.
By following Darnell’s example and advice, you can make “seeing potential” a skill. With practice and effort, you could make it a superpower that enables you to do more good in the world.
Remember, however, that research into success suggests that building on your own superpowers is more important than creating new ones or overcoming weaknesses. You do you!

Devin: What is your superpower?
Ashley: No matter what is going on, there’s that cartoon where the world’s burning in the background, and there’s that little dog and his coffee, and he’s like, ‘I’m fine. Everything’s fine.
The simple act of scrolling through cute animal videos can lift someone’s mood, but imagine pairing that joy with meaningful action. Fureelz, a new social media app founded by Ashley Quincey, connects users to animal welfare organizations while creating a safe and uplifting space for animal lovers.
Ashley shared the inspiration behind Fureelz, explaining that her vision stemmed from frustration with traditional social media. “Every time I would get off of my app, scrolling through social media, which used to be a place where I would go disconnect, have fun, I started to notice that I was getting anxious… And I just felt the reality is, every day, people are already connecting about animals because it’s like it is a great unifier.”
The platform goes beyond showcasing adorable pets. It features partnerships with well-known organizations like Best Friends Animal Society and PetSmart Charities, giving users a direct way to support animal causes. Through a feature called “Furrealsgiving,” users can donate directly to these organizations, with 100% of the funds reaching the charities.
As Ashley described it, “You’re able to give joy and get joy. And to add that extra layer… animal sanctuaries are actually fighting to get visibility, fighting to get that funding. And this is really that ability where you’re able to enjoy your community and discover those different animal sanctuaries.”
Fureelz is also raising money through a regulated investment crowdfunding campaign. The app plans to leverage new revenue models, including in-app purchases, brand sponsorships, and gamification. With plans for exponential growth, Ashley pointed out the massive market opportunity, estimating the “critter economy” is worth $644 billion globally by 2030.
Fureelz isn’t just a tech platform; it’s a movement. Ashley’s passion for animals is evident, and her mission is to create a joyful, impactful community while ensuring animal welfare organizations thrive.
This episode demonstrates that social media can be a force for good. With Fureelz, Ashley isn’t just building a business; she’s uniting people over a shared love for animals while changing lives—both human and animal—for the better.
tl;dr:
Fureelz, founded by Ashley Quincey, is a social media platform dedicated to animal lovers.

Relentless optimism, Ashley’s superpower, has driven her entrepreneurial journey through challenges.
Ashley advises cultivating gratitude and perspective to develop and strengthen an optimistic mindset.
How to Develop Relentless Optimism As a Superpower
Ashley’s superpower is her “relentless optimism,” which she describes as the ability to stay hopeful and positive even in challenging situations. “No matter what is going on, there’s that cartoon where the world’s burning in the background, and there’s that little dog and his coffee, and he’s like, ‘I’m fine. Everything’s fine.’ I think that’s pretty much me,” she explained. Ashley sees this mindset as a critical trait for entrepreneurs to overcome obstacles and maintain focus on their goals.
Ashley shared how her optimism was tested while building Fureelz. With limited resources, no salary, and a small team working for equity instead of regular pay, she faced monumental challenges. Yet, her unwavering belief in Fureelz as a mission-driven platform kept her determined. “I find that at five o’clock in the morning, when it’s quiet, I can take a moment to think, and ultimately, the universe presents solutions,” she noted. This proactive yet hopeful approach helped her gather the right team and secure resources to make her vision a reality.
Tips for Developing Optimism as a Personal Strength:
Practice Gratitude Daily: Write down one thing you’re grateful for every day.
Shift Your Perspective: Focus on the blessings you have, such as shelter, friends, or opportunities.
Embrace Change with Openness: Treat challenges as opportunities for personal and professional growth.
Find Quiet Reflection Time: Early mornings can provide a clear headspace for creative problem-solving.
Adopt Healthy Habits: Incorporate practices like exercise or meditation to stay balanced and focused.
By following Ashley’s example and advice, you can make relentless optimism a skill. With practice and effort, you could make it a superpower that enables you to do more good in the world.
Remember, however, that research into success suggests that building on your own superpowers is more important than creating new ones or overcoming weaknesses. You do you!

Devin: What is your superpower?
Mohit: Service, grounded in humility, listening, and a commitment to community building.
Crowdfunding for startups and investors has often been tangled in legal and logistical complexities. Enter EquiDeFi, a platform designed to simplify regulated investment crowdfunding. In today’s episode, Mohit Bhansali, CEO of EquiDeFi, explained how the platform stands apart by offering technology-driven solutions for entrepreneurs seeking to raise millions and investors aiming for easier participation.
EquiDeFi empowers entrepreneurs to raise up to $75 million under Regulation A offerings, considerably more than Regulation CF’s $5 million cap. “We’ve raised nearly $200 million for our clients with many offerings still ongoing,” Mohit shared. Emphasizing affordability, he added, “The economics of these platforms need to work.” EquiDeFi’s business model eliminates the need for issuers to rely on broker dealers, reducing costs and delivering the tools needed for compliance and investor onboarding.
The platform also incorporates cutting-edge features like credit card payments, cryptocurrency options, and investor accreditation workflows. Remarkably, they’ve helped an 86-year-old investor navigate the process in under ten minutes. By ensuring fast, streamlined participation for investors of all backgrounds, Mohit aims to make equity crowdfunding accessible and convenient.
What sets EquiDeFi apart is its modularity. Mohit clarified, “Issuers can decide how they market or whether to engage a broker dealer.” This flexibility allows startups to manage costs while leveraging features like compliance tools and Know Your Customer (KYC) processes.
The vision doesn’t stop at functionality. EquiDeFi is working on implementing artificial intelligence tools to help entrepreneurs preview and refine their offerings through mock environments. These innovations help issuers experiment with their campaigns before fully launching, offering insights critical to success.
This episode highlighted the importance of inclusivity, simplicity, and education in transforming the investment process. Mohit and EquiDeFi are paving the way for entrepreneurs to reach their communities while enabling smoother, frictionless investing opportunities.
If your company needs to raise up to $75 million or you’re curious about alternative investment opportunities, EquiDeFi’s innovative platform is worth exploring.

Reflecting on lessons from his father, Mohit shared, “Service is going to be important.” This ethos drives EquiDeFi’s customer-first approach, where employees provide direct human support to investors and entrepreneurs alike. “We use AI to assist, but when escalations happen, we put a real voice behind it,” Mohit explained, emphasizing his dedication to both using technology and creating human connections for better engagement.
Mohit’s focus on service stems from personal experience. Growing up as a young immigrant in Brooklyn, his father—a practicing surgeon at 81—taught him the importance of building trust and community as a foundation for success. At EquiDeFi, Mohit hires former musicians, citing their teamwork and fan engagement skills over traditional finance experience. “They bring a different perspective,” Mohit noted, highlighting his drive to create a culture that prioritizes collaboration.
Tips for Developing the Superpower:
Practice Humility: Approach every situation willing to learn from others, regardless of your role or credentials.
Actively Listen: Take time to deeply understand customers’ and colleagues’ needs before offering solutions.
