  • The Red Cross is offering assistance to Sunday's tornado victims in Jackson County
    It's now been confirmed that two tornadoes touched down in Jackson County on Sunday, but thankfully, there were no injuries. An EF-1 tornado touched down in Gautier with winds of 95 mph, causing heavy damage to Glenmark Apartments, Riverbend Apartments, Aztecas Restaurant & Cantina, and around 10 residential homes. The American Red Cross has been providing short-term assistance to residents who need help. An EF-0 tornado in Pascagoula with winds of 85 mph damaged homes on Catalina Street.

    Authorities have arrested one person after a road-rage shooting in Brandon resulted in gunfire. According to the Reservoir Police Department, a suspect was taken into custody in nearby Madison on Monday afternoon. On Sunday night, a woman was driving west on Spillway Road when she noticed a vehicle following closely behind her. As she stopped at a red light near the intersection of North Shore Parkway and Old Fannin Road, the suspect pulled up beside her and fired a single shot at her vehicle.

    Melissa is now a rare Category 5 hurricane...with maximum sustained winds of up to 175 miles per hour. As of the 5 a.m. EDT update, Hurricane Melissa has a minimum central pressure of 901 mb. If it makes landfall at that pressure, it would be the fourth-most-intense landfall on record for the Atlantic Basin, ranking only behind Camille (1969, Mississippi), Gilbert (1988, Mexico), and the 1935 Labor Day Hurricane (Florida Keys).
