Southern Miss handled Louisiana Monroe, 49 to 21, to become bowl-eligible for the first time since 2022. Jackson State was upset by Grambling in the inaugural Las Vegas HBCU Classic. Alcorn State beat Mississippi Valley 32 to 10.

Officials in Jackson County are reporting damage as severe weather rolled across the eastern part of Mississippi’s coastline on Sunday morning. According to Mayor Casey Vaughn, a tornado touched down in Gautier and caused heavy damage to Glenmark Apartments, Riverbend Apartments, Aztecas Restaurant & Cantina, and around 10 residential homes. No injuries have been reported.

In neighboring Pascagoula, emergency management personnel reported tornado damage to homes on Catalina Street. No injuries have been reported there either.

A Union man who was on probation for federal drug trafficking charges was arrested after a police chase in Neshoba County on Monday. 36-year-old Bobby Coleman allegedly tried to avoid a safety checkpoint at the intersection of Road 248 and County Road 347. Deputies gave chase, and Coleman eventually ran off the road and stalled out, then tried to flee on foot. A passenger in the vehicle, 35-year-old Egypt Rashi Mason, was also arrested and charged with possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle.

The Justice Department is accusing several people in the NBA of participating in an illegal gambling scheme backed by the mob.

According to WLBT, an entrepreneur from Jefferson Davis County became involved when one defendant sold him information about an NBA player from the Miami Heat. Marves Fairley is the owner of Vezino Locks Sports Investments.

The next Mega Millions drawing is Friday night, and the jackpot is up to $680 million. The Power Ball jackpot for Saturday's drawing is at $344 million with a cash value of $163.7 million. The Mississippi Match 5 jackpot for the daily drawing is at $58,000.

Southeastern Timber Products has officially expanded its operations in Choctaw County. The family-owned and operated manufacturer of southern yellow pine lumber, timber, and decking products opened its expanded facility in Ackerman on Wednesday. The project marked a corporate investment of $123.4 million and created 40 new jobs.

The Mississippi coast is home to one of the most strategic clusters of defense assets in the nation, including Keesler Air Force Base, Camp Shelby, Naval Construction Battalion Center Gulfport, Stennis Space Center, and critical U.S. Coast Guard operations. Thursday, Governor Tate Reeves announced the formation of Mission 3, a public-private nonprofit defense community support organization.
