On Wednesday, Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith castigated Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer for pulling “reckless and dangerous” political stunts instead of allowing Senators to vote to end a harmful federal government shutdown that is now going into its fourth week. The Senate voted for the 12th time on Wednesday to reopen the government. The vote failed 54-46, falling short of the 60 votes needed to pass the legislation.

A Meridian gang member will spend nearly 25 years in federal prison for running a large-scale drug trafficking organization in east Mississippi. Afrika Roshawn Seals was sentenced Friday to 24 years and three months behind bars. Seals, identified as a ranking member of the Gangster Disciples street gang, was involved in a lengthy joint local, state, and federal investigation that began in 2022.

The Biloxi City Council voted to start the mediation process between the city and the Shuckers Minor League Baseball team on Tuesday. According to WLOX, the city and the team are in the midst of a disagreement that could lead to a court battle if the two sides don't reach an agreement. Shuckers Baseball claims Biloxi owes it money for a batting cage, but the city says the team hasn’t paid up for stadium advertising. As part of the mediation process, the Shuckers will put over $368,000 into a special account. If an agreement isn’t reached by December 5, then it could be taken up in court, where a judge will decide who owes whom money.
