The Mega Millions jackpot is now the ninth-largest in Mega Millions history! No one won Tuesday night's drawing, so the jackpot for Friday night's drawing is at $680 million with a cash value of $318.2 million. The jackpot has been building since June, when a ticket sold in Virginia won a $348 million prize. It marked the first true jackpot to be won after Mega Millions was overhauled earlier this year.

Mississippi's ballot initiative process was eliminated in 2021. Since then, efforts to allow the public to place measures on the ballot for a vote during an election have not made any meaningful headway in the legislature. Senator Jeremy England plans to reintroduce a bill to bring the ballot initiative back in 2026. The upcoming legislative session is scheduled to begin in January.

The grandson of civil rights icon James Meredith is facing murder charges. 16-year-old James Knight and another teen are accused of killing Germantown High School student Saleh Humaid on September 19 in Jackson. Knight had reportedly been texting Humaid about purchasing vapes containing THC. The two suspects are accused of robbing and fatally shooting Humaid.

Mississippi has secured yet another major economic development project. The Vicksburg Warren Economic Development Partnership announced Tuesday that Entergy Mississippi will construct a new $1.2 billion advanced power plant on the grounds of the former Baxter Wilson station on Kemp Bottom Road.

A company that defrauded six Mississippi investors out of nearly $892,000 has been ordered to pay restitution to its victims.

According to Attorney General Lynn Fitch, California-based Safeguard Metals used aggressive sales tactics to coerce more than 450 people across the country to liquidate their retirement accounts to purchase overpriced metals and coins.
