If you're planning to submit an absentee ballot ahead of Mississippi's special legislative elections next month, you may want to take advantage of extended hours at your local Circuit Clerk's office. On Saturday, Oct. 25, and Saturday, Nov. 1, circuit clerk offices in areas of the state holding elections will be open from 8 a.m. until noon for in-person absentee voting.

The Ole Miss football team had a lead in the fourth quarter but was forced to punt twice by Georgia, who capitalized on both opportunities and won Saturday by a score of 43 to 35. Mississippi State lost its game against the Florida Gators, 23 to 21.

Southern Miss won its third game in a row, beating Louisiana 22 to 10.

The Jackson County Fair opened on Sunday. According to WLOX, while no credible threats have been reported by law enforcement, Pascagoula police are looking into a social media post that allegedly claimed teens from Moss Point, Pascagoula, and Gautier were making threats, and there could be violence at the fair. That investigation began on Saturday, the same day one person was killed and two others were injured in Gautier. Plus, a 14-year-old was the victim of a fatal shooting in Tupelo. Demario Faulkner, an 8th-grade student at Plantersville Middle School, was gunned down at Nathaniel Place Apartments on Thursday, and another victim was injured.

An investigation is underway after an officer-involved shooting left one dead in DeSoto County. Deputies with the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office received a noise complaint just after midnight Sunday at a residence on Bankston Road in Nesbit. Rylee James Westmoreland allegedly pointed a weapon at deputies, who opened fire. The subject received fatal injuries.

Vice President JD Vance and Erika Kirk, the widow of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, will take part in a Turning Point USA event at the University of Mississippi. Vance was a close friend of Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated on the campus of Utah Valley University last month. Up to 10,000 people to expected to attend the event on October 29.
