After years of failure to comply with the Safe Drinking Water Act, the federal government took over Jackson's water system in 2022. On Tuesday, the Jackson City Council approved a resolution urging the government to return full control of the management and operation of the water system to the city.

Charles Crawford has been on Mississippi's death row for more than 30 years and is scheduled to be executed on October 15. He was convicted of kidnapping, raping, and killing 20-year-old Kristy Ray in 1993. Crawford killed her days before he was set to go to trial in another rape case.

This week is Fall Severe Weather Preparedness Week, and MEMA is encouraging residents to prepare to be on their own for at least 72 hours. We're in the midst of the Atlantic Hurricane Season, which runs through November 30. The National Hurricane Center is tracking Tropical Storm Jerry in the Atlantic and a trough of low pressure in the southwestern Gulf, along with three tropical waves.

Jerry is forecast to curve north into the Atlantic, staying away from Florida and the U.S.

The city of Gautier is redeveloping the area of the former Singing River Mall. The Sound Amphitheater had a successful opening in 2024. The city broke ground on the Mississippi Songwriters Performing Arts Center in August. The $6 million, two-story facility will feature a state-of-the-art recording studio, classrooms, and the Mississippi Songwriters Hall of Fame Museum. The project is expected to be finished in the fall of 2026.

A Mississippi-born singer/songwriter will play the Cadence Bank Arena in Tupelo on April 10. Philadelphia native HARDY announced the full lineup of his upcoming COUNTRY! COUNTRY! COUNTRY! TOUR! on Tuesday. Tenpenny and McCoy Moore will be joining him on stage in Tupelo for his lone stop in Mississippi. While presale is already underway, tickets will be available to the general public starting Friday at 10 a.m.

In 2023, the trade between Mississippi and Israel totaled approximately $47 million. According to Senator Jeremy England, who co-chairs the Mississippi-Israel Legislative Caucus, that number went up last year. He joined a delegation of 250 U.S. legislators who recently visited Israel, including several from Mississippi, with the intention of strengthening economic and political bonds that would be mutually beneficial to both regions.
