The Holly Springs Utility District is already under investigation for failure to deliver adequate electric service to its customers, who experience frequent power outages that can last for hours. According to TVMO, the utility has missed yet another payment to TVA for wholesale power. The total amount owed now stands at $10 million. The city-run electric department is running at an $8 million deficit a year.

A social media post that claims baiting and feeders will be allowed on public hunting lands in Mississippi is a total fake. The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks is warning hunters about the post, which has been circulated pretty widely online and looks like it originates with the agency. The information is false, and did NOT come from the MDWFP.

A driver with several outstanding warrants was pulled over in Picayune on Monday, where officers said they found crack cocaine in the suspect's underwear. Police pulled over 23-year-old Justin Stokes for failing to stop at a stop sign at Highway 11. When they discovered that Stokes had four outstanding warrants for possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, they searched the car.

Hattiesburg Mayor Toby Barker is calling out Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker on social media. President Trump announced Monday that the Pentagon is working on plans to deploy the National Guard in Chicago, as part of the administration's crackdown on crime. Pritzer claimed that Hattiesburg has higher crime rates than Chicago, which Barker emphatically denies.

President Trump signed an executive order Monday morning calling for those who desecrate the U.S. flag while inciting violence or breaking other laws to face prosecution. Glenn Antizzo, Professor of Political Science at Mississippi College, says the order is likely to trigger a Constitutional fight. The Supreme Court ruled in 1989 that flag burning is a form of symbolic speech that the First Amendment protects.

Residents across South Mississippi will pay tribute to those who lost their lives when Hurricane Katrina roared ashore on August 29 of 2005, this week. GOP Strategist Henry Barbour served on the Recovery Committee. He believes that First-Lady Marsha Barbour deserves a lot of credit for being on the ground right after the storm hit.
