Jackson police are still looking for suspects in a fatal shooting that occurred in August 2023. What was initially reported as a car crash on the Interstate 20 west ramp near Ellis Avenue turned out to have been a homicide. Sentrell Kelly, the driver of a maroon Buick Roadmaster involved in the wreck, had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to the hospital, where he passed away. Crime Stoppers is offering a $2,500 reward for tips that lead to an arrest in the case. Kelly's family is also offering a reward, for a total of $17,500.

A mother and her two sons are facing charges for a shooting in Clarke County on July 30. 15-year-old Darayvion Blanks has been charged as an adult for his alleged involvement in the incident. His older brother, Kemarrion Blanks, is facing multiple felony charges, including shooting into a motor vehicle, shooting into an occupied dwelling, and aggravated assault. Their mother, Danielle Blanks, has also been arrested. She's charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor, stemming from her alleged role in enabling or failing to prevent her minor son’s involvement in criminal activity.

UMMC recently announced significant expansions, including the opening of new clinics in Ridgeland at Colony Park South and the acquisition of the former Merit Health Madison hospital in Canton, now known as UMMC Madison. Dr. LouAnn Woodward, the Vice Chancellor of Health Affairs and Dean of the School of Medicine at UMMC, recently penned an op-ed in which she shared concerns that some media have insinuated that UMMC is leaving Jackson, which is not true.

One person was killed in a fatal wreck in Biloxi that occurred at the tail end of a police chase that started in D'Iberville. Police flagged a vehicle as stolen from Biloxi, but when they tried to pull the driver over, they fled. Police haven't identified the victim. Plus, A 41-year-old man was injured in a shooting in Brandon on Sunday. According to investigators, Eddie Wooten was shot around 3:30 p.m. in the 500 block of Luckney Road.

Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith has introduced legislation to stop the Small Business Administration from using its loan programs to discriminate against firearms-related businesses. According to the Mississippi Senator, financial institutions were pressured to cut off services to lawful firearm-related businesses under former President Obama, and policies restricting the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens continued under Biden.
