Attorney General Lynn Fitch has launched "Operation Robocall Roundup", a multi-state effort to crack down on robocalls across the country. The AG's Office sent warning letters to 37 voice providers, demanding that they stop illegal robocalls being routed through their networks. According to Fitch, these calls and texts are more than a nuisance; they're often the gateway to scams.

The Department of Health has confirmed the first death from a human case of West Nile Virus in the state this year. The death occurred in Washington County.

A Brookhaven man has been arrested in connection with the discovery of a body that was dumped in the Silver Creek area in Lawrence County, and police are looking for a second suspect. According to law enforcement, a missing person's report had been filed roughly 24 hours before the discovery of the body on Tuesday. Timothy Hathorn is in custody. Police are still looking for 39-year-old Ryan Elizabeth Tobias.

The city of Tupelo is unveiling a new marker on its Elvis-Tupelo driving tour today. Jennie Bradford, the Deputy Director of the Tupelo Convention and Visitors Bureau, told us it's located at Relic's Antique Marketplace. Tomorrow is fan day at the Elvis Presley birthplace.

City leaders in Long Beach failed to decide on a possible casino resort in a special meeting on Thursday. The city approved a lease with developers in November for property north of Highway 90. However, the developer didn't reach an agreement for the property, and now they want to move the project south of the highway. If the plans are approved, the development will still need approval from the Mississippi Gaming Commission and a Tidelands lease.

A mid-decade redistricting effort in Texas is still stalled as dozens of Democratic state lawmakers continue to stay out of the state.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott pointed to the results of the last election as justification for mid-decade redistricting. Democrats across the country have criticized the new maps as a blatant attempt to give Republicans an electoral advantage.

Meridian police are still trying to figure out whether a shooting that took the life of a child on Thursday afternoon was an accident. According to the Queen City Newsfeed, the two-year-old was shot at a home near 38th Avenue and 44th Street around 4 p.m. Investigators found evidence that a projectile had traveled through the ceiling of a room. An officer responding to the shooting was involved in a separate crash on 23rd Avenue. The police SUV collided with another vehicle, which then crashed into a house.

Government forecasters warn that the worst of this year's Atlantic Hurricane Season is yet to come, despite a slow start. However, forecasters from NOAA’s National Weather Service have slightly revised their 2025 hurricane season outlook downward.
