    Jackson native Monroe Milton III has been charged with drug trafficking after his arrest at the Jackson Airport on Tuesday. Plus, Lane Taylor defeated four opponents in a special election in Senate District 18 on Tuesday. The Republican, an insurance agent and auctioneer by trade, garnered over 58% of the vote and will now represent Neshoba County and portions of Winston and Leake Counties in the state senate.

    Vicksburg Mayor George Flaggs has declared a state of emergency due to rising water levels on the Mississippi River. The River level could reach as high as 48.5 feet this weekend. The flood stage for Vicksburg is 43 feet, with levels already approaching that mark.

  • Gluckstadt police arrest suspect after a brief chase on Tuesday / Meridian police are investigating an altercation at the Hampton Inn
    The suspect who led Gluckstadt police on a chase early Tuesday faces several charges. Nigel Keshune Wilcox crashed a vehicle that was reported stolen in Georgia on Interstate 55. He was spotted near the Fleetway Service Station and ran into a wooded area behind Sonic, but was arrested a short time later. Wilcox is charged with felony eluding a police officer, receiving stolen property, and reckless driving. Plus, Meridian police are investigating an altercation at the Hampton Inn. The hotel was evacuated after an individual allegedly pulled a weapon on an employee. Officers say two suspects tried to escape, but were taken into custody.

    18 tornadoes touched down in Mississippi on March 14 and 15, and seven residents lost their lives. MEMA Director Stephen McCraney says there was damage in 14 counties. 233 homes were destroyed, 208 homes received major damage, and 230 had minor damage. President Trump has yet to sign off on requests for FEMA assistance.

    According to the NFIB 283,000 small businesses in Mississippi could face higher taxes if Congress doesn't make the 20% Small Business Tax Deduction permanent this year. The deduction was a key provision of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017. Mississippi Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith has been pushing for an extension of the cuts, which are set to expire in December. If the deduction remains in place, Mississippi is projected to gain 9,000 new jobs annually over the next 10 years, including an annual GDP increase of $362 million for the first decade and $747 million per year beyond 2035.
