The Tunica County Sheriff's Office is looking for a suspect who should be considered armed and dangerous. A warrant has been issued for the arrest of 17-year-old Mario Donyale Lester, Jr. Lester allegedly shot and killed an 18-year-old Sunday night at the intersection of Carol Street and Edwards Avenue. He's charged with first-degree murder and unlawful discharge of a firearm within a populated area.

Plus, a special election for Mississippi Senate District 18 is being held on Tuesday. The seat has been vacant throughout the 2025 regular session following former Senator Jennifer Brannings’s election to the Mississippi Supreme Court.

The man who pled guilty to multiple charges after shooting a Lyft driver and taking her car in November of 2021 has been sentenced to 30 years in prison, with five of those years on probation. According to WLBT, Dontarius Magee admitted he pulled a gun on Brandy Littrell after she picked him up in Byram, forced her into the backseat, drove her to Jackson, and later dragged her into the woods and shot her seven times. Magee was charged with attempted murder, armed robbery, carjacking, and kidnapping.

Vicksburg city leaders and emergency management officials gathered Monday to provide an update on expected flooding and urge citizens to be prepared. Mississippi River levels continue to rise, potentially reaching as high as 48.5 feet by April 20. The flood stage for Vicksburg is set at 43 feet, with levels already approaching that mark.

Charges against two Louisiana men who allegedly shot a man at the Days Inn on Highway 90 in Biloxi early Saturday morning have been upgraded. 40-year-old Keyronic Deshun Stewart and 45-year-old Saterius Virshon Cobb were originally charged with aggravated assault. The victim died on Sunday, resulting in an upgraded first-degree murder charge against Stewart, who is also charged with possession of a stolen firearm. Cobb is charged with possession of a weapon after a felony conviction and accessory after the fact. Plus, an 18-year-old from Ellisville is charged with arson. Christopher Walker allegedly set the fire that destroyed a 19th-century home over the weekend.

A suspect that allegedly fired shots at a Jackson police officer is in custody. According to investigators, the man was shooting a gun near Clark Avenue and Englewood Boulevard around 6 p.m. When the officer tried to make contact, the suspect fired on the officer and ran into an abandoned house, but was eventually caught and arrested. Plus, an 11-year-old was killed in an ATV crash in Union County on Saturday afternoon. Luke Harrison's younger brother Caleb and the boy's grandmother were also injured in the wreck at a home along County Road 36.

The Mississippi Dept. of Education and school districts across the state are facing a potential loss of $137 million in federal money. Dept of Education Superintendent Dr. Lance Evans is trying to get the money reinstated. The U.S. Secretary of Education, Linda McMahon, informed state education agencies of the cuts on March 28. McMahon has said they will consider restoring the funding on a project-specific basis and invited states to explain why each project is necessary.
