Charges have been dismissed against a man who was charged with a murder in Rankin County last summer. Police were called to the 200 block of Circle Drive after shots were fired into a home along the roadway. One man was killed, and a second victim was taken to the hospital but survived. Seth Tyler Wilder was charged with murder and aggravated assault, but a grand jury failed to indict him. Plus, a man with a prior conviction for accessory after the fact to attempted murder and armed robbery in Louisiana was arrested after a traffic stop in Gulfport on Wednesday. Trevonne Mingo is charged with possession of a controlled substance, and possession of a weapon after a felony conviction.

A Hattiesburg man with a long arrest history is being charged with armed robbery. 29-year-old Charles Anthony Smith Jr. was booked into Forrest County jail on Wednesday. The armed robbery charge is connected to an incident on February 15 in the 6100 block of Highway 49. Smith is also facing charges for the sale of a controlled substance, receiving stolen property, reckless driving, two counts of shoplifting, and a single count of simple robbery. He's also wanted on a probation violation.

A pastor and former school bus driver in Jefferson County turned himself in to police on Wednesday in a disturbing case involving children. Elvis Colenberg allegedly forced two 14-year-olds to have sex with each other on the school bus around 20 times. The investigation began in February after the female student went to law enforcement.

A Coast man has been indicted for allegedly burning down a Mormon church. A federal grand jury indicted Stefan Day, also known as “Stefan Pete Day Rowold,” on six federal charges related to arson and civil rights violations. Day is accused of setting fire to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Wiggins on July 5 and July 7, 2024. He faces multiple charges, including arson, intentional destruction of religious property, and using fire to commit a federal felony.

Two suspects will spend years in jail for their roles in a drive-by shooting in Rankin County in 2023. Vincente Rodriguez pled guilty to drive-by-shooting and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was on parole for burglary at the time of the shooting. Rodriguez has been sentenced to an additional 10-year and 5-year consecutive sentence which will both run consecutive to the remainder of his current sentence. Alan Welch, who drove the vehicle used in the shooting, pled guilty to accessory after the fact. He was sentenced to 5 years in prison.

The Vicksburg National Military Park commemorates the pivotal Civil War Battle of Vicksburg, Mississippi's most-visited historical attraction. Senator Roger Wicker has reintroduced a bill to expand and modernize the park, allowing for the construction of a state-of-the-art interpretive center. The proposed legislation would transfer land from the National Park Service to the state.

18-wheelers full of emergency supplies for tornado victims in Mississippi were shipped to Tylertown, Magnolia, and Jefferson Davis County by the United Cajun Navy. Cajun Navy volunteers have also been cooking for first responders, and clearing debris for low to moderate-income families who don't have insurance or other means of recovery.
