A Jackson woman has been sentenced to decades in prison for a murder at Sunset Plaza Apartments in June of 2023. Jessica Blount pled guilty to second-degree murder and arson. She'll serve 30 years of her sentence in prison, and five years on post-release supervision. Plus, the Mississippi native who landed a third-place finish on "American Idol" in 2023 is facing DUI charges. Colin Stough, of Gattman, was arrested early Friday morning after a single-vehicle crash in Tennessee.

Several school districts have announced early dismissals today in anticipation of severe weather that's expected to begin this afternoon and linger through tonight. According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, the entire state is at risk, and the main threat is tornadoes. The storms are expected to move across the western parts of the state around noon and move to the east. Damaging wind gusts of 45-50 mph are possible, but gusts could get up to 70 mph as the strongest part of the system moves through. Hail the size of quarters is also possible. A couple of Coast Mardi Gras parades have changed their start times due to the weather: The Krewe of Nereids in Waveland will kick off at 9:30 a.m. The Bay St. Louis Krewe of Real People parade has been moved up to noon. Biloxi's Gulf Coast Carnival Association parade will roll at 1 p.m.
