Rankin County deputies seized a large amount of meth and fentanyl in a traffic stop on Thursday night. The drugs were found in a BMW that was loaded onto a tractor-trailer with other vehicles. Investigators concluded that the driver and the unnamed trucking company had no prior awareness that illegal drugs were inside the car, and released the driver.

The biggest rodeo east of the Mississippi River begins today. The Dixie National Rodeo is celebrating 60 years in the saddle this year at the State Fairgrounds in Jackson. Agriculture Commissioner Andy Gipson called the event a celebration of the agriculture industry, which has a huge impact on Mississippi.

It didn't take Jackson police long to arrest the man wanted for the brutal beating death of a woman at a Jackson hotel. 24-year-old Joshua Malik Boothe was arrested shortly before 3 p.m. on Thursday.

Plus, the former leader of the Attala County School District has been indicted in connection with the murder of his wife. An investigation initially labeled the incident an accident, but after her body was autopsied and a grand jury was presented evidence, the criminal indictment was handed down.
