We continue with our sermon series on the book of Job. For thirty-eight chapters, Job’s heart had become more and more stormy. All of that changes when the Lord of the storm shows up. Job finds out what it means to experience the calm that only comes after the storm.

Job's friends drag him into wrong thinking about his suffering, yet Job, even in the middle of his delirium, finds hope in his living Redeemer.

What happened to Job? There's a simple way to answer that question, but we must go deeper. The Sovereign Lord, confident in his own grace, sends Job suffering. Job trusts in his good and merciful God.

Even the most simple things we can't do perfectly. Yet, Jesus gives us the perfect prayer in the Lord's Prayer and he makes sure we pray it in an unexpected way as he works behind the scenes to allow that to happen.

The costs of following Jesus can certainly be great. We take care to be aware of what these costs are and to budget appropriately for them. Through Jesus' words to five men in Luke 9 we see how the unexpected costs of following him become expected and even welcomed.

Jesus is very blunt with those he would follow him. In this sermon, we hear his call to deny self and take up our daily crosses. We empowered to do what he says by the power of his cross.

Every sermon needs to have these four words: Your Sins Are Forgiven. However, we must understand exactly what these words mean to us personally. Christ has much to say about these words through the account of the sinful woman who shows a great act of love.

Life is fragile. Death has been folded into our lives, but Jesus lives and will never die again. He is the first-fruits from the dead. Today, Luke gives us a fore-taste of the day when Jesus will call all the dead from their graves. God truly has come to help his people.

Jesus works a great miracle by healing the centurion's loved servant. However, the greater miracle is done by the Holy Spirit, the great faith worker. Displayed by the centurion, and found in every Christian is a great faith that is worthy of wonder and worthy of worth.

God's blessings come in 3s. The Father creates and provides for us. The Son redeems us and the Spirit wins our hearts.
