An opportunity for anyone preparing for their APC Final Assessment to draw on over 30 years of APC assessment experience!

James and Jon and Sam(my) discuss the RICS APC online assessment 10-minute presentation and visual aids. A topic that often makes, 30-year presenting veteran, Jon’s blood boil, due to some of the ludicrous advice and guidance given!

Hold things up to the camera, screen share project documents… just some of the daft advice and guidance we hear.  Clearly given by those that often do not understand the importance of the presentation and the use of visual aids.  And, now, in the new mid-pandemic online assessment times, the boys discuss the pros, cons and pitfalls and provide a unique assessor (James & Jon) / candidate (Sam) eye view on the topic.

James and Jon have enjoyed discussing Sam Nicholson’s career and jam-packed life to date, they thought they would lull him into a false sense of security and turn the tables by allowing Sam to pick up the reigns and ask them some questions instead!

Running around buildings hitting each other with loaded sticks, music, the movies, family life and business, work ethic and a keen sense of you can achieve anything with a bit of hard work, is all part of the discussion... Oh yes and James loves football (YAWN)… More excitingly James is expecting another baby!

Following the success of ‘Lifeboat Man’ (S1E5) we have invited our VIP Guest, Sam Nicholson, back to the SurveYOUR podcast to massage his ego, discuss his eclectic career path and bring us bang up to date as he embarks upon his new career in Building Surveying.

 We covered Sam’s early experience of surveying which then took a back seat as he embarked upon a ten-year hiatus, surfing, saving lives and skiing in the French alps and a more down to earth local role training off-shore workers for five years.  Finally, coming full circle back to Building Surveying, the APC and his future career aspirations.

 It is always fun chatting with Sam and don’t tell him, but James and Jon are secretly envious of the colourful experience he has had to date.  We hope you enjoy listening to this episode as much as we enjoyed recording it.
