  • Episode #22 - How His Anxiety Started by Coach Decorah

On this episode of Survive and Thrive 8791, Coach Decorah talks about the start of his anxiety.

It all started as a two to three month old baby tracking his great grandmother's movements, watching her struggle with the onset of Parkinson's. Seeing her shake and tremble, fall due to the loss of balance and coordination, or helping her to her feet once he was old enough to stand himself, things just escalated.

His anxiety would continue to grow as his mother, living the life of a young adult, would leave him home with his ailing great grandmother or at times by himself. Fear, worry, and panic were a constant as he would await her return on those nights.

Those same feelings came back in the late 90s as Coach Decorah's wife took a job that would cause her to be gone a few nights each week. This left him having the same thoughts and feelings he experienced as a young child. Without any coping skills, Coach Decorah suffered.

Finally, in 2021, relief came in the form of professional help, strategies to handle the anxious feelings, and forgiveness at his mother's grave. The road to recover started!

If you or someone you know struggles with anxiety, then you'll want to tune into the next episode of Survive & Thrive 8791, CAN'T WAIT!!!
