Solitude was once our default state when other people weren’t around. Now it’s nearly extinct. With distraction always easily at hand, we are losing the ability to endure uncomfortable emotions. Jesus models for us a healthy rhythm of engaging with people and withdrawing for solitude. When we regularly engage the practice of solitude, we become spiritually healthier and better able to love and serve our neighbors.
