About the guest
Professionally, Ani Filipova has built a successful career in banking initially covering Europe, Middle east and Africa and for the last 10 years Asia. Her last position in Citibank was the Chief Operating Officer for Treasury and Trade Solutions covering the Asia Pacific region of 16 countries, including India and China. In April 2021, she decided to take time off from her corporate career and pursue a "portfolio career":
- Support university graduates and young professionals to find their career path.
- Develop further as lecturer, writer and speaker.
- Build a portfolio of investments and Non-Exec Board roles to support entrepreneurs in diverse areas, including ESG.
She never thought she would be in banking. Her career was a by-product of a deep passion she had at the time. Born behind the “iron curtain”, Ani wanted to travel, to see new places, to learn about foreign cultures. When she finished higher education, her focus was to join an international company, as this would enable her to pursue her dream. She was heartbroken when both Shell and McDonald's rejected her job application due to “lack of experience”. As a “plan B”, she joined a local bank and then she rapidly started moving to her stellar international banking career. She had an amazing journey in a multicultural, multi-ethnic, and multi-generational environment; she has been to more than 80 countries in the world – half of these visited on business. She has lived and worked in Sofia, Bucharest, London, Singapore and Hong Kong, and at present her home is in Athens.
