  • Why incorporating a green rooftop is essential 🌿

WE BUILT NATURE OUT OF OUR CITIES. NOW WE'RE INVITING IT BACK.

We've spent decades building cities around nature. What if we started building them with nature instead?

I recently sat down with Jeremy Wright of ZinCo Canada, a company with German roots dating back to 1957, to explore something that's quite literally taking sustainability to new heights: green rooftops!

And we're not just talking about putting a few plants on a roof.

Imagine rooftop gardens, urban farms, thriving biodiversity, beautiful gathering spaces, and buildings that actually work with the environment rather than against it.

Here's what really got me thinking.

We're obsessed with longevity, wellness, and biohacking, yet we continue designing cities that disconnect us from the very thing we need: nature.

And while green rooftops are beautiful, their benefits go far beyond aesthetics. They can help manage stormwater, regulate building temperatures, protect roofing systems, support biodiversity, and create spaces where people actually want to spend time.

So why aren't we seeing more of them?

Jeremy and I explored the differences between Toronto and Vancouver, the challenges of retrofitting existing buildings, and why we need to stop reacting to environmental problems and start designing to prevent them.

Because sustainability shouldn't mean compromising on style, comfort, or profitability.

What if the most innovative thing we could do was simply bring nature back to where it belonged all along?

A fascinating conversation about reimagining our rooftops, our cities, and ultimately, our relationship with nature.

🎙️ Featuring Jeremy Wright, ZinCo Canada.
