On today's podcast, I am joined by Hofstra Media and Communications Professor Brian McFadden to discuss the current climate of the media during the pandemic as well as the importance of teaching media literacy to everyone. We discuss how the cable news networks have been covering COVID 19 (2:14), the anger created by disinformation (5:50), the importance of teaching media literacy (9:45), the rise of "Infotainment" (16:50), why political satirists have been labeled as the new truth tellers (21:08), teaching children media literacy (25:48), whether we could implement media literacy into elementary, middle or high schools so people learn how to navigate media sooner, were we prepared to take on the influence of social media when it was created (37:18) and then we wrap up the podcast talking about what his experience was like teaching courses outside of campus due to the pandemic (41:32). You can follow Professor McFadden on his twitter which is @bfadds. Link is here https://twitter.com/bfadds
To emphasize how important this topic is to me, here is a link that will give you a run down of the concept of media literacy. I personally believe we must adapt to the constant changing nature of media and the sooner people are able to adapt and understand the many messages sent by media, the better off we will be.
