कौरवों की माता गांधारी ने महाभारत युद्ध के लिये श्रीकृष्ण को जिम्मेदार ठहराते हुए उन्हें श्राप दे दिया कि जिस प्रकार कुरुवंश का नाश हुआ है, ठीक उसी प्रकार से यदु वंश का भी नाश होगा। गांधारी के श्राप के कारण श्रीकृष्ण द्वारका लौटकर यदुवंशीयों को लेकर प्रभास क्षेत्र आ गए थे। श्रीकृष्ण ने ब्राह्मणों को दान देकर यदुवन्शियों को मृत्यु का इन्तज़ार करने का आदेश दिया था। कुछ दिन बाद सात्यकि व कृतवर्मा में महाभारत को लेकर विवाद इतना बढ़ा कि सात्यकि ने क्रोध में आकर कृतवर्मा का सिर काट दिया। इस घटना के बाद यदुओं में आपसी युद्ध भड़क उठा। वे दो समूहों में बंटकर एक दूसरे का संहार करने लगे। इस लड़ाई में कृष्ण के पुत्र प्रद्युम्न व मित्र सात्यकि समेत सभी यदुवन्शी मारे गए। केवल बब्रु और दारुक बचे।

Gandhari’s Curse to ShriKrishna

Mother of the Kauravas, Gandhari blamed Shrikrishna for causing all this death and destruction and cursed him that the way her entire lineage hads been destroyed, one day the sameday same thing will happen to his Yaduvansh.

After this curse Shrikrishna returned to Dwarka and took all his relatives to Prabhas. He instructed his clan to conduct charitable acts while waiting for their impending doom. 

One day Satyaki and Kritavarma got into a debate over their actions during the Mahabharata war. They started insulting each other and the debate got heated. Satyaki ended up cutting Kritavarma’s head.

This resulted into massive infighting among all the Yadava’s who ended up killing each other including Shrikrishna’s sons and friends. Only Babru and Daruk survived.

महाभारत युद्ध के अन्त में जब अश्वत्थामा ने पाण्डव पुत्रों का वध किया तब पाण्डव भगवान कृष्ण के साथ अश्वत्थामा का पीछा करते हुए ऋषि वेदव्यास के आश्रम पहुंच गए। अश्वथामा ने पाण्डवों पर ब्रह्मास्त्र का वार किया तो अर्जुन ने भी अपना ब्रह्मास्त्र छोड़ा। महर्षि व्यास ने दोनों अस्त्रों को टकराने से रोक लिया और अश्वत्थामा व अर्जुन से अपने ब्रह्मास्त्र वापस लेने को कहा। अर्जुन ने अपना ब्रह्मास्त्र वापस ले लिया परंतु अश्वत्थामा को ये विद्या नहीं आती थी। इसलिए उसने अपने अस्त्र की दिशा बदलकर अभिमन्यु की पत्नी उत्तरा के गर्भ की ओर कर दी।

श्रीकृष्ण ने अश्वत्थामा को श्राप दे दिया कि तुम चिर काल तक इस पृथ्वी पर भटकते रहोगे। तुम्हारे शरीर से पीक और रक्त की गंध निकलेगी जिस कारण तुम मनुष्यों के बीच नहीं रह सकोगे अपितु दुर्गम वन में पड़े रहोगे।

At the end of Kurukshetra war when Ashwatthama killed all the Uppandavas, the Pandavas along with Shrikrishna chased him to the hermitage of Maharshi Ved Vyas. Ashwatthama fired a Brahmastra at them, to counter it Arjuna also fired the Brahmastra. 

Maharshi Ved Vyas stopped these weapons from colliding and asked both of them to recall their weapons. Arjuna did as was asked, however, Ashwatthama did not know how to recall his Brahmastra. Ashwatthama redirected his weapon towards Uttara’s womb, who was carrying Abhimanyu's child. 

Shrikrishna nullified the weapon and saved the unborn child however he cursed Ashwatthama to wander around alone in the world till eternity with a bleeding forehead.

महाभारत के शन्ति पर्व के अनुसार जब युद्ध समाप्त होने के बाद कुंती ने युधिष्ठिर को यह बताया कि कर्ण तुम्हारा बड़ा भाई था तो सभी पाण्डवों को बहुत दुख हुआ। युधिष्ठिर ने तब पुरे विधि विधान के साथ कर्ण का भी अन्तिम संस्कार किया। इतनी बड़ी बात छिपाने के लिए वे अपनी माता कुंती से बहुत नाराज हुए और शोक में आकर सम्पूर्ण स्त्री जाति को उन्होंने श्राप दे दिया कि आज के पश्चात कोई भी स्त्री ज्यादा देर तक कोई भी बात गुप्त नहीं रख सकेगी।

Yudhishthira’s Curse to All Women

According to the Shanti Parva of Mahabharata after the war of Mahabharata Kunti told the truth about Karna’s birth to Yudhishthira. the Pandava brothers were very sad hearing about this and blamed their mother for keeping this a secret from them. They performed the last rites of Karna.

However, because of keeping this secret Yudhishthira cursed all the women that they will be unable to keep any secret for long.

महाभारत युद्ध से पहले जब अर्जुन दिव्यास्त्र प्राप्त करने स्वर्ग गए तो वहां अप्सरा उर्वशी उन पर मोहित हो गयी। अर्जुन ने जब उन्हें अपनी माता के समान बताया तो यह सुनकर उर्वशी क्रोधित हो गयी और अर्जुन को श्राप दे डाला कि तुम नपुंसक की भांति बात कर रहे हो, इसलिए तुम नपुंसक हो जाओगे और तुम्हें स्त्रियों के बीच नर्तक बनकर रहना पड़ेगा। व्याकुल होकर जब ये बात अर्जुन ने देवराज इन्द्र को बताई तो उन्होनें उर्वशी को समझाकर इस श्राप की अवधि एक साल करा दी क्योंकि श्राप वापस नहीं हो पाता। तब इन्द्र ने अर्जुन को कहा कि ये श्राप तुम्हारे अज्ञात वास के दौरान तुम्हारे बहुत काम आएगा। तुम्हें कोई पहचान नहीं पाएगा।

इसी श्राप के कारण पाण्डवों के अज्ञातवास का एक वर्ष अर्जुन ने नर्तकी बृहन्नला के रूप में बिताया। 

Urvashi’s Curse to Arjuna

Before the Kurukshetra war Arjuna visited Alkapuri to seek divine weapons from Gods to prepare for the inevitable war. There he met Apsara Urvashi, who got infatuated with him and made advances towards him. Arjuna however, stopped her saying he considers Urvashi like his mother and cannot respond to her advances. Hearing this Urvashi got angry and cursed Arjuna to become a neuter and live among women as a dancer. 

When Arjuna told Indra about this curse, Indra convinced Urvashi to reduce the period of her curse to one year, so that it can help Arjuna to liveing in disguise during their one year of incognito period. 

Because of this curse Arjuna lived in Matsya kingdom as Brihannala during their one year of Agyatvas.

एक बार महाराज पाण्डु शिकार खेलने वन गए। झाड़ियों के पीछे कुछ हिल रहा था। मृग है सोचकर राजा ने बाण चलाया जो जाकर ऋषि किन्दम और उनकी पत्नी को लगा। वे दोनों मृग के वेश में रति-क्रीड़ा में लिप्त थे।

जब राजा ने उन्हें देखा तो बहुत दुखी हुए कि ये मुझसे क्या पाप हो गया। बहुत क्षमा याचना के बाद भी किन्दम ऋषि ने पाण्डु को श्राप दे दिया कि जब भी वो किसी स्त्री को काम भावना से स्पर्श करेंगे उसी क्षण उनकी मृत्यु हो जाएगी। पश्चाताप करने के लिये, वे सिंहासन पर अपने अन्धे बड़े भाई राजा धृतराष्ट्र को बैठाकर स्वयं अपनी रानियों कुंती व माद्री के साथ वन चले गए। पांडवों का जन्म भी कुंती को ऋषि दुर्वासा द्वारा दिए गए मंत्र से हुआ था जिसमें किसी भी देव का स्मरण कर उस देव से कुंती पुत्र प्राप्त कर सकती थी। एक बार माद्री पर मोहित हो पाण्डु स्वयं को रोक नहीं पाये और जब पाण्डु ने उसे स्पर्श किया, उसी क्षण पाण्डु की मृत्यु हो गयी।

Kindam Rishi’s Curse to Pandu

Once Maharaj Pandu was hunting in a forest. He sensed some movement from behind the bushes and thinking it was a deer, shot an arrow. The arrow hit rishi Kindam and his wife, who were enjoying an intimate moment together disguised as deer. 

When Pandu realised what he had done, he pleaded forgiveness for his actions, however Kindam rishi cursed Pandu. As per Kindam rishi’s curse Pandu would die the moment he gets intimate with any woman. 

Following this, Pandu assigned his blind elder brother Dhritarashtra as the caretaker king of Hastinapur and started living in the jungle with his wives Kunti and Madri. the Pandava brothers were born by using the boon of rishi Durvasa to Kunti, using which she could summon any God and seek a child from them. 

Once Pandu was alone with his wife Madri and he could not control himself. The moment he decided to get intimate with her he died.

भगवान परशुराम और कार्तवीर्य अर्जुन के बीच युद्ध के समय कार्तवीर्य के सैनिक ऋषियों के आश्रमों पर आक्रमण करने लगे। जब भगवान परशुराम ने कार्तवीर्य का वध कर दिया तो उसके पुत्रों ने ऋषियों को अपना निशाना बनाया। 

इसी प्रकरण में एक बार उन्होंने पाराशर ऋषि के आश्रम में भी आक्रमण कर दिया। जब ऋषि ने उनको रोकने का प्रयास किया तो इस प्रक्रिया में उनके पैर में चोट लग गयी। 

इसी चोट के कारण वो लंगड़ाकर चलने लगे और उनका एक नाम पंगु ऋषि भी पड़ गया। 

The Limping Sage

During the fight between Bhagwaan Parshuram and Kartavirya Arjuna, Kartavirya’s soldiers started raiding the Ashrams. After Bhagwaan Parshuram killed Kartavirya, his sons attacked various Ashrams. 

During one such raid they attacked the Ashram of Parashara rishi. The great rishi tried to stop them and was hurt in his leg in the process. 

After this Parashara rishi started walking with a limp and became famous as the Limping Sage

एक बार यमुना नदी के तट पर विचरण करते हुए पाराशर ऋषि की भेंट मछुआरे की पुत्री मत्स्यगंधा से हुई। पाराशर ऋषि मत्स्यगंधा के रूप पर मोहित हो गए और उनके साथ संभोग की इच्छा व्यक्त की। 

मत्स्यगंधा ने नदी के किनारे खड़े लोगों को दिखाते हुए लज्जा की बात कही तो पाराशर मुनि ने यमुना के बीच में एक द्वीप बनाकर उसे कोहरे से ढंक दिया। उन्होंने मत्स्यगंधा का कौमार्य भंग न होने के साथ साथ उनके शरीर से आने वाली मछली की गंध को सुंदर कस्तूरी की गंध में बदलने की भी बात कही। 

अंततः ऋषि ने मत्स्यगंधा के संभोग किया और मत्स्यगंधा ने पाराशर ऋषि के पुत्र को जन्म दिया। एक द्वीप मे जन्म लेने और श्याम वर्ण का होने के कारण उनका नाम कृष्ण द्वैपायन पड़ा।

मत्स्यगंधा कोई और नहीं, सत्यवती थीं जिन्होंने बाद में महाराज शान्तनु से विवाह किया। सत्यवती और पाराशर ऋषि के पुत्र कोई और नहीं बल्कि वेद व्यास थे।  

Once Parashara rishi was travelling along the bank of river Yamuna, he met Matsyagandha, the beautiful daughter of a fisherman, Matsyagandha. Parashara rishi was infatuated by her beauty and wanted to be intimate with her. 

Matsyagandha pointed towards the people standing at the bank of river Yamuna and felt shame. Parashara rishi created an island in the middle of the river and covered it with fog. He also promised that her virginity would be restored. Lastly he converted the unpleasant fish smell into a beautiful flowery smell, making her Yojangandha. 

Eventually they became intimate. Satyavati gave birth to Parashara muni’s son on that island, who came to be known as Krishna Dwaipayana, because of being born into an island and his dark skin.

Matsyagandha was none other than Satyavati, who later married Hastinapur king Shantanu and was the grandmother of Dhritarashra and Pandu. The child of Satyavati and Parashara rishi was none other than Ved Vyas

Parashara grew up thinking, his grandfather Brahmarshi Vashishtha was his father. When he found out the truth and that his father and uncles were killed by a demon under the influence of rishi Vishwamitra, he decided to conduct a yajna to exterminate all the demons from the world. 

Rakshasa from all over the world started burning in the fire of Parashara’s yajna. When Pulastya rishi noticed this destruction he requested Vashishtha rishi to stop his grandson. Rishi Vashishtha told Parashara rishi to stop his yajna for it was not correct to blame all the Rakshasa for the death of his father. 

Parashara rishi eventually calmed down and stopped the yajna. Pulastya rishi blessed the rishi with divine knowledge. 

पाराशर ऋषि का यज्ञ

पाराशर ऋषि अपने दादा वशिष्ठ ऋषि के आश्रम में बड़े होने लगे और उन्हें ही अपना पिता समझते थे। जब उन्हें अपने पिता का सत्य पता चला कि उनके पिता और चाचाओं की हत्या एक राक्षस के हाथों हुई, उनको बड़ा क्रोध आया और उन्होंने एक यज्ञ कर सभी राक्षसों को भस्म करने का निश्चय किया। 

पाराशर ऋषि के यज्ञ के कारण विश्व के सभी राक्षस भस्म होने लगे। जब पुलस्त्य ऋषि को इसका पता चला तो उन्होंने वशिष्ठ ऋषि से उनके पौत्र को रोकने को कहा। वशिष्ठ ऋषि ने पाराशर मुनि को समझाया की अपने पिता की मृत्यु का दण्ड समस्त राक्षस कुल को देना सही नहीं है। 

वशिष्ठ ऋषि के समझाने पर पाराशर ऋषि का क्रोध शान्त हुआ और उन्होंने अपना यज्ञ रोक दिया। इस बात से प्रसन्न होकर पुलस्त्य ऋषि ने उनको दैवी ज्ञान प्रदान किया।

एक बार ब्रह्मर्षि वशिष्ठ के पुत्र शक्ति महर्षि एक सँकरे पहाड़ी रास्ते से कहीं जा रहे थे। रास्ते में उनकी भेंट सामने से आते हुए राजा कल्माषपाद से हुई। कौन पहले रस्ता पार करे इस बात पर दोनों में विवाद छिड़ गया। दोनों का विवाद इतना बढ़ गया की कल्माषपाद शक्ति मुनि को कोड़े मारने लगे। क्रोध में आकर शक्ति महर्षि ने राजा को राक्षस बन जाने का शाप दे दिया। 

राक्षस बने कल्माषपाद ने शक्ति महर्षि को खा लिया और बाद में ऋषि विश्वामित्र के प्रभाव में वशिष्ठ ऋषि के अन्य पुत्रों को भी मार दिया। 

जब वशिष्ठ ऋषि को अपने सभी पुत्रों की मृत्यु का पता चला तो दुःख के कारण उन्होंने आत्महत्या करने की सोची, परन्तु अनेक प्रयासों के बाद भी विफल रहे। जब वशिष्ठ ऋषि अपने आश्रम वापस आए तो उन्होंने शक्ति महर्षि की पानी अदृश्यन्ति को गर्भावस्था में पाया। उन्होंने एक पुत्र को जन्म दिया जो अपने दादा के साथ उनके आश्रम में बड़ा होने लगा। 

अपने पौत्र को देखकर वशिष्ठ ऋषि का शोक मिट गया और उनको जीवन जीने की नई प्रेरणा मिली, इसीलिए उन्होंने बालक का

नाम पाराशर रखा।

Parashara Rishi’s Birth

Once Brahmarshi Vashishtha’s eldest son Shakti Maharshi was going somewhere on a narrow path. On the way he met King Kalmashpada of Ikshwaku dynasty. They both got into an argument over who has the right to cross first. The argument escalated to a level that the King hit the Rishi with a whip. The Angry rishi cursed the king to become a demon.

The demon king under the influence of rishi Vishwamitra killed and ate Shakti Maharshi and his brothers. 

Rishi Vashishtha was so grief stricken that he decided to end his life. After multiple failed attempts at ending his life he met Shakti Maharshi’s wife Adrushyanti, who was pregnant. She gave birth to a boy, who grew up in the hermitage of his grandfather Vashishtha, thinking he was his father. The boy made Vashishtha rishi forget about his grief and gave him a reason to live, thus he was named Parashara.

उत्तराखंड में स्थित पंच केदार को हिन्दू धर्म में अहम मान्यता दी जाती है. पंच केदार दरअसल पांच मंदिरों का समाहार है जो कि महादेव के नंदी स्वरूप को समर्पित है. शिवजी के साथ यहां माता पार्वती की भी पूजा की जाती है. महाभारत युद्ध के उपरांत पांडव अपने भाई तथा गुरुजनों के वध का प्रायश्चित करने हेतु तीर्थ यात्रा पर निकल गए थे. इस क्रम जब वे शिवजी के दर्शन करने आये, तब महादेव ने हिमालय की तलहटी पर पर उन्हें एक नंदी या भैंसे के रूप में दर्शन दिया।    

शिवजी का यह नंदी स्वरूप इतना विशाल था की उनका सींग केदारनाथ में, बाहु तुंगनाथ में, मस्तक रुद्रनाथ व जटा कल्पेश्वर में दिखाई दिए. मध्यमेश्वर में महादेव के शरीर का मध्य भाग अर्थात उनका पेट व नाभि विराजमान हुए. जहाँ जहाँ शिवजी के विभिन्न अंग प्रकट हुए, उन सभी स्थानों पर पांडवों ने मंदिरों का निर्माण करवाया जिन्हें पंच केदार कहा जाता है

Panch Kedar 

Situated in Uttarakhand, Panch Kedar is a collection of five temples dedicated to the Nandi form of Bhagwaan Shankar. 

After the Kurukshetra war, Pandava brothers came here to perform penance to Mahadev for killing their friends and relatives. They worshipped Bhagwaan Shankar and He appeared in the form of a giant bull. 

This bull form of Mahadev was so big that his horns were at Kedarnath, legs at Tungnath, Head at Rudranath, Hair and Kalpeshwar and stomach at Madhameshwara. 

Pandava built temples at all these places, which are collectively referred as Panch Kedar.
