Karin Colby, Swarthmore College Men's and Women's Swimming head coach,  has been with Swarthmore since the 2015-16 season and has won two Centennial Conference championships and was twice named the conference's coach of the year in men's swimming. Her teams have won 73.5 percent of their meets, and she's coached four All-American relay teams.  

She joins Brandon Hodnett on Getting to Know the Garnet and they discussed her degree in geology, her appreciation of cheese curds and disdain for triathlons, and some of her favorite memories at Swarthmore.

Swarthmore College Men's Soccer head coach Eric Wagner has been at the program's helm since 2002 and has won 197 games since then. He coached the Garnet to the No. 16 ranking nationally in 2019 and to an appearance at home in the Sweet Sixteen. Swarthmore College Women's Tennis head coach Jeremy Loomis has been with Swarthmore since 2002-03 and has the most Centennial Conference wins in league history with 143. He's won the league championship three times and has made the NCAA Tournament five times. On eight occasions, he has had a student-athlete named Centennial Conference Player of the Year.

On this episode of "Getting to Know the Garnet" we feature Chris McPherson, director of sports performance and Matchbox Fitness Center Coordinator. McPherson, who is entering his fifth season at Swarthmore, discusses how his time as a former student-athlete prepared him for his current position.

Chris Bourne ’17 was a 1,000-point scorer on the men’s basketball team and is now in his fourth year as a PhD candidate at the Weill Cornell Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. He is part of a collaborative program with Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and is researching ways for the immune system to fight cancer. He recently received an NIH F31 Fellowship with the National Cancer Institute.

Dr. Kathryn Riley '10 played softball at Swarthmore and is the program’s all-time leader in hits, home runs, wins, innings pitched, strikeouts and more. Now she's an assistant softball coach and a chemistry professor at Swarthmore who just had another article published in the academic journal Environmental Science. The name of the article rolls right off the tongue--Emerging investigator series: quantifying silver nanoparticle aggregation kinetics in real-time using particle impact voltammetry coupled with UV-vis spectroscopy.

She explains her research in silver nanoparticles, tells of her dramatic no-hitter win over Ursinus in the Centennial Conference playoffs, and offers suggestions on the way that Swarthmore and the sport of softball can help improve Black representation in the sport.

Brothers Victor Brady '13 and Jacob Brady '20 were known as being the voice of the Garnet during their time as students at Swarthmore.

Victor was an honors political science major with a history minor and is about to begin his fifth year as the head coach of Bryn Mawr College field hockey.

Jacob was an honors neuroscience and political science double major and will be starting work in a neuroscience developmental lab at NYU.
