Swede As - The Podcast

It's our final episode of 2020!!! We thought we'd take the year out in 'Swede As' style and chat all things Christmas - as well as share some surprising news about Sheona's immigration saga (let's hope she is still allowed in Sweden next season!)

We compare Christmas carols, real trees vs plastic, admire Sheona's first pepparkakshus and support Brian through his struggles with tjugondag knut. We also welcome a first-time, special guest to the show to teach us about Gävle's big, burning goat.

Thank you for listening to 'Swede As The Podcast' this year! We hope you have a wonderful New Year - bring on 2021!!

In our final episode of Season 2, we dive into Sweden's more 'sobering' radio station, P1. We remember our meltdowns when we first moved to Sweden. Brian educates us on Swedish country music, called dansbandsmusik. We explore Swedish classic songs that everyone (expat or Swede) should acquaint themselves with. And we present one of Sweden's most beloved TV shows "Så mycket bättre".

In our tenth episode of season two Brian, Tania and Sheona discuss Swedish properties, the dialect in the southern part of Sweden - known as Skånska - Sheona witnesses a bicycle accident and attempts to help, Brian warns the girls about the upcoming Autumn-depression and also schools the girls on the rotation of the earth. We also discuss how we felt when we first moved to Sweden - loosely dubbing it the '3 months of shock' period and how it affected our ability to make friends.

In this lightning episode, we launch into one of the most mysterious items of food found in Sweden.... every expat knows about it, even though it's unlikely you've ever ordered it! We also talk about Brian's moose-head (are you honestly surprised?!), Swedish food and the possibility that Swedes are actually not as conservative as ya'll make yourselves out to be!

Glad sommar allihopa! We swing into this episode with a slightly embarassing game of golf. We pick berries and questionable mushrooms, whilst trying to avoid encounters with bears. We sing-a-long to allsång på skansen and we uncover the truth about Melbourne's recent mask-avoiding Karen. Cameo appearances include the frog-dance and a murderous moose!

Do you smell that truck?? If you live in Stockholm - expat or Swedish - you MUST have smelt the fat-collection truck! If not - we dive into detail about this and another smelly aspect of Swedish life - mulltoa! We also highlight 'Sommarbarn' (something which Brian is involved in), having kids vs not having kids in Sweden and how Sheona and Tania met back in 1998 (which may or may not include a leotard and wheels). Brian is back in SWEDEN!!! We catch up IRL and discuss Brian's ridiculous trip home to Sweden. We also explore his accidental extended time in Costa Rica.... including how he learned to surf (the missing skin on his chest is proof of said attempt). We also take this time to discuss behavioural changes since Covid-19 and delve into the Black Lives Matter movement sweeping the world - including Australia's and Sweden's demonstrations.

In this episode, we welcome the long-awaited return of Brian Modin (in memo form)! We discuss the lack of 'excuse me's' in colliding situations, painters copping an eyeful in Solsidan, Brian's isolation madness in the USA, kitty-litter (it's actually genius!), lucky countries and even Gotland!

This episode was recorded in late May 2020, so excuse any slightly out-of-dateness. Big THANKS to Clarion Sign for having us back!

T-banger and She-babes get together again for a special edition of 'Swede As The Podcast', while Brian is still navigating a return to Sweden from the US amidst Coronavirus. Special guest, Mattias Lindblom, braves the third chair and we talk all things Swedish covid-19 strategy, weddings, graduation, vacuum and Tina Arena!!! We feel like this is the most intellectual we have ever sounded! Special shout-out to Tania's birthday - and the echoey acoustics of her kitchen ;)

Sheona and Tania take to their isolation screens and by the magic of technology, manage to debrief on the current Coronavirus situation from the Swedish point of view. ***MASSIVE APOLOGIES for the progressively deteriorating sound!!*** we honestly didn't know wtf we were doing...
