Part 1 this week Super Time Computer Al sends our host way back to a time when sound in film was making its first impacts on the film industry. A time when the the movies were pre Hays Code, the world was introduced to Popeye, people thought they discovered a new planet (future scientists would laugh at them), and the country was at the start of The Great Depression. Our hosts blown away by how, even in the early days of sound in movies, filmmakers of the era quickly exploited the artistic potential of their new technology. Jeff and Cory take us Behind the Oscars in a new segment that explores the historical significance of the 2nd Academy Awards. AL gives us some Useless Hollywood Facts as both our host find a new appreciation for the early days of Hollywood. We also hear a promo from one of Al’s Podcast Friends, Pipin’ Hot Tea. Continue to Part 2 to hear how Jeff & Cory determine who should’ve really won Best Picture of 1930.
This Week our Hosts are getting into the Halloween spirit by counting down their top 20 favorite Scary Films. Part 2 this week covers numbers 10-1 on our list. Both Jeff and Cory wrote their own lists of their favorites and the rankings were averaged to compile our final list. Wherever your favorite Scary flicks rank, we agree that there is no real way to definitively set this list from one of our favorite movie genres. Join the Discussion and let us know what we got right, what we got wrong, and what we left out on social media. Happy Halloween!

Welcome to Part 2 of this week’s show. This week Super Time Computer Al heeds the call of an iTunes reviewer and sends our host to the far off year of 2018 to discover if The Shape of Water really was a “dumb movie” (reviewer’s words not ours). Armed with their wit and a scientifically sound 5-finger rating system, Jeff and Cory go over the nominees for 2018 Best Picture in search of finding the one true winner. Will they switch the envelope to a more deserving film? Will the reviewer’s request be validated? Will we ever find out what a production designer does? Find out on this episode of Switch the Envelope!
This week Super Time Computer Al gives our hosts a request from an iTunes review that takes them way back to the year that hasn’t ended yet. That’s right Jeff and Cory explore the 2018 Best Picture nominees. Along the way Cory discovers that Disney owned properties make up the bulk of the top box office of this year. Jeff reveals why he’s bored with the new Star Wars films. Both set the stage for an epic showdown in Part 2 between a fishy love story, two films covering the same British WWII calamity, a beautiful coming of age drama, an inventive horror movie, and the rest of the nominees as they decide if, per the reviewers opinion, the envelope needs to be switched.
Rocky vs. Network vs. All the President’s Men
In Part 2 of this week’s show, our hosts run the Best Picture nominees and alternates from 1977 through their patented 5- finger metric. Does Sylvester Stallone’s every-man sports film have the stamina to hold onto its Oscar? Will time prove another film was more worthy? Has anyone one actually seen Bound for Glory? Find out the answers to these questions and more as we reveal whether or not the Academy should Switch the Envelope.
This week Super Time Computer Al sends our host to a year when the worst blizzard in U.S. history hit Buffalo, the world lost a king on his throne, and the nation celebrated a second 100 years of being great…again. Jeff and Cory dig deep into a list of movies created before their births to discuss Best Picture of the 1977 Academy Awards. Cory explains the historical significance of this years Award show. Jeff calls #metoo on Hitchcock. And they both find out that Bound for Glory is a real film that existed. In the process they add a few movies made in 1976 to the list of standard nominees and set the stage for deciding whether or not to switch the envelope. Will Rocky hold on to it’s Oscar? Or will one of the other films submitted steal gold away from the Itallian Stallion? Find out on our part 2 results episode.
Good Will Hunting vs. Boogie Nights vs. Chasing Amy
This week our Super Time Computer Al is back and sends our hosts to a year when the world lost a princess, a rap Icon, a saint, and a piece of Evander Holyfield’s ear. 1997 was the Year Titanic broke all cinema records and cemented its place in modern pop culture and also gave us Bat-nipples. Cory’s anniversary pushes the recording session to the weekend so Jeff cracks open the Jameson. This episode focuses on the best original screenplays and we find a ton of well-written movies to add to our nomination list. Whether or not we switch the envelope will be revealed in part 2 of this episode.
With Al in the computer hospital, we invite our friend and entertainment expert Vanessa to guest host with us. This week Jeff shakes up our format and suggests a top 10 list. Inspired by the great soundtrack to late Burt Reynolds classic, Boogie Nights, we explore the best original songs from some of the worst films. These are the songs that become the reason we go back to such terrible movies as Mannequin, Con Air, Space jam and more. Cory nails a version of a song by Starship. Jeff discovers the real origins of the television show Sex and the City; and our guest Vanessa probably regrets the whole thing. Along the way they all discover that Diane Warren is the most prolific Academy song writer as they compile the most definitive list about great songs from garbage movies. You can’t argue it, it’s science. Find out who tops our list and whether or not we find a way to switch the envelope after all.
