Switch Youth

God is looking for people with the humility to admit their own brokenness and the faith to follow wherever He leads. This is what God found in the Prophet Isaiah, and it’s what was lacking in the people of Israel during his time as a prophet. Just like He did with Isaiah, God is inviting us to humble ourselves under His mighty hand and have the faith to follow wherever He leads.

Throughout history, people have chosen to reject God and devote themselves to something or someone other than God. But, even though those idols promise a lot, they always leave us empty. In this message, we will look at a famous face-off between Elijah, God's prophet, and 450 prophets of a false god named Baal. We'll discover that idols always promise more than they deliver, but God always delivers on His promises.

Since the Fall, we’ve been trying to get back to what we lost. We look to others to show us the way, but we keep coming up short. At best, human leaders are broken signposts, pointing to the only One who never falls short—Jesus.

How do we end up distant from God? Usually, one step at a time. One step of compromise. One step of disobedience. One step away from what's right and toward what's wrong. If you find yourself far from God, what do you do? You repent. It's time to turn from what's wrong and turn towards what's right.

Do you believe God has something more for your life? Not just getting through school or figuring out a career one day, but actually being used by Him in a meaningful way? Most of us would say yes. The problem is, we want to do extraordinary things for God without being faithful to God in the ordinary, everyday moments. But, that's just not how it works.

There are a lot of gods you can worship, causes you can support, and people you can follow, but only Jesus is worth devoting your life to. He alone has the power to speak the universe into existence and save us from our sins, and only Jesus was willing to walk through death and back to bring us home.

Life is better when we look to the needs and interests of others before our own. On the flip-side, a life centered on your own wants and desires is the fast track to a miserable life. Because all of us were created for more than to just satisfy our own desires.

Why do we so often do what's wrong instead of what's right? Sometimes, it's because we don't know the right thing to do, and sometimes, it's because we actually really want to do the thing we know we shouldn't. So, we justify our choices and redefine right and wrong based on our own desires. If you find yourself here, what do you do? Tune in to learn about the better way Jesus invites you into.
