Okay folks, it’s time for another episode on Warrior Nun, episode eight, in which we get exposition and backstory meetings, and the planning of Vatican heists (which we are super down for)! It’s a holy heist! In our discussion we talk about near-death experiences (NDEs), dealing with your shadow side, and the structure of angel bones. We also make the great observation that the nun squad are so focused on divinium that they completely miss the importance of humanium. For we cannot build a strong house (or a healthy social network) without our friends and allies who help us along the way.

Alright the patrons have spoken which means that this week we are covering the 2014 remake of Hercules, starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Ian McShane! Listen to hear us parse out what is myth and who was the man. Was it Hercules the son of Zues working alone the whole time, or Hercules the charismatic leader of a band of faithful warriors and poets? In the end, it’s all about family.

In this episode of Warrior Nun Ava and Mary go on a pilgrimage together, and Ava must confront the effects that demons have on the world and her own path in life. In this arc, more than any other yet in this show, we are treated to an examination of family, and how that can mean something different to each person. Something else that comes up in our conversation is the lesson Ava learns, just like any superhero must, that with great power comes great responsibility.

This week we get into the tangled web of lies that can be woven around us in life, and the tangled knots we can find ourselves in with complicated relationships in our discussion of the Disney animated movie Tangled. Also, did we mention there’s a lot of hair? But that never gets tangled. But we also talk about how to spot gaslighting behaviors, and various types of verbal and somatic spell components for all you budding witches and wizards out there.

This week on Warrior Nun we saw growing tensions within the church, and escalating aggressions between the church and Arq Tech. Ava tries to escape to Italy with J.C. but it turns out there is no running from your fate. We discuss the ever-present themes of faith, trust and loyalty, as well as warfare and internal strife. But we also take some time to appreciate how Ava and J.C. got some reprieve from the conflicts to get their groove on down in bonesville!

This week we cover a fantasy film about a fictional person called a “reader,” who can pull something called “words” from a thing called a “book.” Listen in as we stumble through trying to understand what type of adaptation this is and to our attempt to make sense of this convoluted film. We also share some lore from the source novel Inkheart, and compare the novel to the movie we watched. In this episode on Warrior Nun we discuss the growing tensions and animosity between the Order of the Cruciform Sword (nun squad) and Arq Tech (portal scientists), as well as the struggle within Ava between living mas or playing the hero. There is also dissent within the church ranks, and everyone just wants a piece of that divine pie, so that they can control others and the narrative. Listen in as we speculate wildly about Ava’s emerging powers, the motivations of the different stakeholders, who can be trusted and who is and is not a demon in disguise.
