This weekend we celebrated fathers.  What does it mean to be a father? What roles do we play or need to play as father’s? How does God share those attributes in the stories we share biblically?

This weekend at Sydenstricker celebrated graduate recognition. Our graduates begin new life journeys, some to college, some to career and some to new adventures in current careers and we want to celebrate their accomplishments. We also celebrated Pentecost, the coming of the Holy Spirit in the Disciples lives that changes everything and truly begins their ministry.   

The gift of the Holy Spirit reminds us of the importance of the faith community and that we cannot live alone. 

We are celebrated our communion with a special music-filled worship service on Sunday. The Chancel Choir shared a Schubert Mass in the traditional Methodist Communion servicem, with a guest string quartet.  As we move toward summer, this was a great way of celebrating our heritage. It was a great time together sharing in voice, song and Word.

This weekend we celebrate Memorial weekend when we remember those who served and gave their all that we might be free to worship as we please. Sydenstricker has a great history of service to our country and we have many veterans that serve. We also have folks who serve us as first responders, police, fire and rescue and serve us in hospitals, doctors and dentist offices. We celebrate their service and their willingness to put their lives on the line for you and me.  Sunday's message focused on faith or works. Did James get it wrong or do we misunderstand what he is teaching us?
