WITH-ness: The experience of being deeply connected with God and others through joy, presence, mutual delight, trust, safety, and shared life. A relational environment where people become more fully alive because they are deeply known, genuinely loved, and continually invited to grow. ~ Table & Well
Big Question:
What happens when our longing for security turns into a need to control the relationship through performance and appeasement?
Join Tennison & Ginelle as they conclude their conversation on the posture of UNDER. In this episode they will take a look at the invitation that WITH brings as couples move from:
From performance to presence.
From appeasement to authenticity.
From anxiety to security.
From managing your response to trusting our relationship.
From self-abandonment to healthy autonomy.
From earning belonging to living from belonging.
From UNDER to WITH.
Every spouse longs to know, "Are we okay? Am I safe here? Will you still be here?"That longing for security is good. We were created for secure attachment, for relationships in which we can rest, trust, grow, and know we belong. But when that security feels threatened, fear begins looking for a way to guarantee the outcome.
In the UNDER posture, the strategy becomes performance, pleasing, or appeasement:
"If I do everything right, our marriage will be okay."
Instead of receiving security through attachment, we try to earn it through our behavior. And slowly, marriage moves from joy to fear, from relationship to rules, and from intimacy to performance.
