May 13, 2019InsecureThis week, we talking about our relationship. This was inspired by a subject that we didn't feel deserved as much attention as it got this past week (Ayesha Curry running her mouth on the world wide web about "house business"). We didn't talk about that, though we ended up referencing it, but it was a jump off point for us to talk about our marriage and some of the challenges we experienced early on. We talked about how some insecurities can affect the trajectory of a relationship and how we got back on track. We didn't really have a master plan for this one aside from being transparent about our marriage in the hopes it may help someone else out there in podcast land....more1h 39minPlay
May 06, 2019Say Her NameThis week, we're renewing a conversation that sometimes we feel like dies and gets resurrected only when another case of police brutality goes "viral". Actually, this conversation began off the mic with us sitting around the house comparing plans of what we will, and more importantly, won't do if (and when) we're stopped by police. We then went into a conversation about the Sandra Bland murder (let's call it what it is) and how that has further informed some of our decisions about how we interact with police going forward. We just really felt like this conversation, although it's not the most pleasant or entertaining, has to be had in perpetuity so we're not only speaking about the issue of police brutality and/or the murder of unarmed civilians when yet another video surfaces....more1h 2minPlay

April 29, 2019Dear 20-Something Me,...This week, we're giving our 20-something-year-old selves advice. We've made a ton of mistakes and have some regrets that, when looking back on some of it over 20 years later, were completely avoidable. We decided to talk to our past selves based on what we know now. Some of the advice is very specific to us and some is more universal....more58minPlay

April 22, 2019This Lil Light Of Mine...This week, we realized it was yet another week we weren't going to church on yet another religious holiday. It made us feel like it was necessary to discuss a spiritual journey we've both been on and update you guys on it since the last time we've talked about religion on this podcast. We discussed what made us start this process and some of the difficulties we're dealing with as a result. We don't intend on this changing any minds or telling anyone what to think...we do want everyone to simply think, though. Think about where we were, how we got to this point and whether or not your belief system agrees or totally disagrees with what we're saying....more1h 5minPlay

April 15, 2019The Christopher Columbus Syndrome - The Tactless Know-It-AllsThis week we’re talking about Gentrification. What inspired us to talk about this subject is the incident that recently happened in Washington D.C. at a Metro PCS store (If you haven’t heard about it, we explained it in the beginning of this episode) that started the #DontMuteDC movement. We realized that although D.C. is a long way away from Atlanta, this is not new or unique and wanted to explore some of the effects of gentrification from the ground level. So, we spoke about this topic from 2 perspectives: #1. As black people who have been and have family that have been affected by gentrification and #2. As real estate investors that have tried to mitigate some of the damage caused during this process, and simultaneously educate and reinvest in the areas targeted around Atlanta. We tried to keep this light-hearted because it’s so easy to get pissed about this (and we have been), but we felt like this is the time to make incremental changes instead of just getting angry....more1h 18minPlay

April 08, 2019The Struggle Ain't RealThis week, we're trying to find the answer to the question: Is there shame in growing up without struggle? The question really stems from years of conversations we've either had within our family or we've witnessed them online. And the conversation goes pretty much like this: Child grows up with virtually no struggle. Child gets older and then "recalls" many struggles. Adults are basically like "wtf?" This exchange has happened over and over and we're basically just seeking answers at this point. Is this isolated to just us? During the course of the episode, we felt like we found an answer. Listen in and find out what we settled on....more1h 1minPlay
