Take the lead
means to step forward, take charge, or guide others. It’s when someone steps up and shows the way, especially when no one else is sure what to do.
Examples:
1-  During a business meeting, everyone was unsure of the next step, but Jordan took the lead and proposed a new plan to move forward.
2-  At a friend’s birthday party, everyone hesitated to start the karaoke, so Charlie took the lead and sang a ridiculously off-key version of "Happy Birthday," getting everyone laughing and joining in.
