Hey all! Today we'll be taking stock of our progress this past year, and taking a look forward at what 2025 may look like. From porting our database infrastructure to GitHub and becoming the first American DUNA, there have been some awesome advancements.
I'm looking forward to also discussing items on the near horizon, such as the hopeful approval to come for WhyDRS to operate as a charitable nonprofit. @wtfeweguys will join the show to talk about social engagement and scaling project development, leveraging what we have to grow what we can do. This will also be the last episode of 2024, as we break for the winter holiday. Be well and be merry!

This week on Taking Stock, we're speaking at length with John Wooten about his suggestions and work to see regulators update and modernize their approach to transfer agents.
John is a hyperqualified person to speak with about these developments, as between his Transfer Agent BlockTransfer and his self-developed code concept TAD3, he is among the few pushing for meaningful under-the-hood changes in the TA industry.

This week we're joined by Michael AME, a retail investor active in community development and in highlighting the efforts of the readers, writers and builders who are seeking to raise the floor for collective understanding among investors.
These are intentionally complicated markets, and simplifying them isn't in everyone's interest. Michael tells us more about his personal journey to become invested and how he became interested to build a community and bring attention to niche but crucial details uncovered by it's members.

This week Chives and John were joined by Valentine, a Stellar community member and contributor who is becoming increasingly involved in the online advocacy space and is providing code improvements to the SDEX ecosystem.
Valentine has some personal history as a retail investor and engaging with online communities, and was unfamiliar with DRS as an asset holding framework, so we covered some of these topics as well.

Today on Taking Stock we'll follow up on last weeks discussion with an examination of the Treasury Department's study on Digital Assets, which also was released in October 2024. The Treasury takes a more direct approach reviewing how tokenization of treasuries could impact the market currently developing in the crypto space including effects on stablecoins, bitcoin, memecoins, and coins yet to come. It is a data driven and conservative take which is worth the read if you're interested to see how the coming years may integrate emergent blockchain technology.
Make sure to check out some of the excellent included graphics and charts to follow along, as we'll praise heavily the diligence displayed by this team even if dismayed by the way in which the Treasury department is recommending to utlize distributed ledgers.

Today on Taking Stock we'll be discussing the recent DTCC study on Digital Assets effects on Collateral Management. Per @john.xlm , DTCC Digital Assets is their Securrency acquisition. One of the primary benefits to digital assets is how it can enable direct custodial control for participants and transparency for onlookers - DTCC as umbrella for the centralized security depository for US markets will have an interesting sponsored take on this tech.
The report was authored by Nadine Chakar, an industry veteran who is currently the Global Head of DTCC Digital Assets. Her prior roles included acting as Securrency CEO, an RWA tokenization firm, before they were acquired by DTCC and as the head of State Street Digital, which was a focused division of the State Street asset management firm.

This week on Taking Stock, Chives is joined by Ankit of XXIM. Ankit has described his project as an effort to bridge the gap of understanding between disparate sections of retail involved in the financial sector, and we discuss how blockchain technology (beyond any specific crypto) can be applied to traditional financial markets - both by current market incumbents, but also by market participants and enthusiasts.
Ankit and his wife also host the XXIM podcast where both Chives and John Wooten have appeared as guests in one part of the effort to spread the knowledge around.

This week on Taking Stock, Chives and John discussed Decentralized Management, Teamwork, and Growth. What does it mean to be a decentralized mass of enthusiasts pushing towards a common goal?
How can we enable the driven to contribute, and how can we enable the curious to learn how to contribute? Where can we host information and resources to be the most helpful and conducive to meeting our goals, and how can we define specific goals for an organized body when everyone has their own nuanced perspective?

This week, Chives reviews some ongoing key questions still to be answered for moving forward with the 501c3 IRS process, and invites community input.
Key issues discussed include the best fit NTEE code, whether WhyDRS will submit additional paperwork concerning potentially influencing legislation, how and if compensation should be allotted to members from donated funds, and the distinction between a private foundation and a public charity.
