hello jazz pianists welcome to the jazz podcast or to tell teller kids well it depends where you're listening to this and we're on a couple of the uh telltale club pods so you can usually find me actually we're going to look at c minor major nine we're going to look at uh all the notes that we need the spelling they call that and then we're going to play around and see what we can do with with a bit of improv okay i like this chord and at the end of this broadcast we'll think of a way to describe it and i'll also do a digital version later on this is um a a recording an audio recording of me playing it it's not a midi recording so first note is the c i'm going to use the c to the right uh left rather of middle c but you could use any c

any one you like the next note is the e flat the third

because it's a minor key

we're already getting there aren't we we're already creating something what have we created a feeling a minor key feeling ah let's see what difference the next note will make the fifth is the g

um very nice i like them i like them a lot let's get the seventh to the b oh now you can really hear something's happening here isn't it that has really changed the mood how interesting oh it's quite anxious sounding now what happens when we add that ninth it's a d

it doesn't sound too uh exciting but wait let's pop everything together shall we right well that is um i would say a little bit discontentful is that a word discontent filled with discontent it's not

it's not what i expected do you know what i think i'm i think it's angry i think that's the word i'm going to use for today i think it's um rather school mistressy who's caught somebody uh smoking and is furious

let's play around with those notes the c an e flat up here

i need my nails cutting you can really hear that well i'm going to stick with angry it's the only word i can think of i'm afraid it's absolutely the only word i can think of which doesn't sound so angry when i leave out that e flat it's the e flat it's that third that is making that chord sound angry play around with all these notes and see which ones affect the the tone of things obviously the third is making the the difference is making it a minor instead of a major so if you leave it out it's a undisclosed isn't it however um

i really think that that's the angry note that e flat uh anyway this is uh uh for the jazz podcast of course uh it's ter is becoming more imperative as we go on that um you need all these chords for composition and of course i'm a digital musician and these are just so useful when you're working on your film scores and things so there we go c minor major nine i'm going to call that angry and disapproving um and i might stick a head master or head mistress no it's very i think she she's a she she's a head mistress definitely an angry headmistress chord that's what i'm going to call that one uh join me tomorrow for the next one let me see what the next one is c major 11. how exciting

hello everybody welcome to telltale club and maybe telltale music as well i'll probably pop this uh recording up on there there is a separate site you know for all things talent music and there's also a vapour punk site podcast i'm trying to sort of update everything but it takes a very very long time but i do my best now today i was really busy today and i was off gallivanting and i was off gallivanting yesterday and when you're kind of venting around you tend to put leave things to the last minute and i knew i had to do the advent calendar obviously i'm doing one every day and it was about 10 o'clock and i thought oh i suppose i better go find a track you know because you've got to search around and decide which track you're going to use and then you've got to do all the voices for the robots and i'm using a template now it's a really good idea if you're using garageband or logic pro when you save things like it gives you the option to save as a template and this is so useful if you're doing a lot of the same thing it's actually useful anyway um because you know you so often one uses the same settings um in the same instrumentation and you know we we like what we like don't we and it's a really good starting point if you're already set up do you see what i mean so i have my template but then i have to do my voice um and my voices and all the robots have to say different things and so even if it's only you know a minute long it still takes me about two hours from start to finish and you need to factor all these things in if you can't find a song that that's suitable tonight i i had two full starts so i'd found something and then i tried it out and it just didn't work and then i found something else and i tried that out and i wasn't happy with it so it's sort of third time lucky you see and this is what takes all the time it's the searching for material um lyrics uh the tune the right key all of this stuff it's not actually the process of putting it you know making the track it's finding um your sources especially if they're midi sources you've got to find the right stuff or if you're going to put the track in in your keyboard and this takes time darlings anyway um other news i'm going to start cello and piano tomorrow but i'm starting right back to day one as if you've never played before because these seem to be the most downloaded lessons the more advanced lessons don't seem to be working uh quite so well so um that's fine by me i love teaching i i like teaching little children actually so we're going to be doing that so that's quite exciting um this is obviously uh vapour punk and the orchestra and they are they are geared towards quite young children so if you're a mum or a dad or a school out there um that you you'll probably find these really useful and really good fun and if you're a little one listening to this these are just for you they're absolutely super so the advent calendar i'll pop the link in the description it's all free of course it is always free at the telltale kids club book club everything's free and um you know we share the dream and we we want everything to be uplifting and happy and there's too far too much bad news in the world and we don't let it in to hear to tell the other kids and we don't want it you leave that at the door we're about music and all things that are uplifting and very special um so this is number five and i won't tell you what it's called because part of this one is about guessing um but i think you'll like it but you can always let me know actually if you if you don't approve that i don't mind um they're all supposed to be a little bit funny so oh...
