In 2020, Don Lyle retired as one of the longest-tenured baseball scouts in America. He spent 28 years in scouting and of his 50-plus signees, eleven of them made it to the major leagues.

Don began his baseball career in Sacramento at Oak Park Little League, played for Sacramento High and finished at Cosumnes River College where he was the sole black player on his team.

Diminutive Tony Freitas was one of the greatest left-handed pitchers in minor league history, playing the bulk of his career with the Sacramento Senators and Solons. He also pitched five seasons in the big leagues for Philadelphia Athletics and Cincinnati Reds. This interview was conducted in 1992 and concludes with Tony's remembrance of the final week of the 1942 Pacific Coast League season when the Solons claimed its only PCL championship.
