TALES OF VALOR HALF-HISTORY: LT. Stephen Williams | On June 2, 2020, Lt. Stephen Williams of the Moody Police Department in Alabama, answered a disturbance call and was murdered in the line of duty. While there are many words that can and should be said to honor him, Mike had a letter written by Stephen back in 2015 that he called "An Open Letter to My Killer" that demonstrated the warrior mindset he maintained for 23 years as an officer and is a way we hope to demonstrate he's worthy of a Tale of Valor.

TALES OF VALOR HALF-HISTORY: Gran Sasso Raid | Yes, our fascist enemy Mussolini had been captured and yes, the Waffen SS Commandos coordinated a rescue effort at the direct request of Adolf Hitler. Only God will ever know why this mattered so much to Hilter, but the raid itself was, according to Winston Churchill, "one of great daring." Listen in and decide for yourselves!

TALES OF VALOR EP. 37: WITOLD PILECKI | This episode's tale of valor takes us to Poland in WW2 where one man, Witold Pilecki, volunteered to go to Auschwitz in order to gain intelligence and attempt to build a resistance to the invading forces. We talk about the before that mission, the actual experience itself, and the tragic reception of Pilecki upon returning home eventually. There are lessons to be learned here and his story must never be forgotten.

TALES OF VALOR HALF-HISTORY: Hanns Scharff | When you think of interrogating the enemy, maybe a scene from the TV Show 24 comes to mind; or at least something out of the movies. But when Hanns Scharff became lead interrogator for some US Pilots, he had already decided in advance he wasn't going to mistreat people like he'd previously seen. His method of kindness quite possibly saved a bunch of lives but also taught us the art of interrogation that can actually work. Guess you can decide.

TALES OF VALOR HALF-HISTORY: Marvin Shields | Marvin Glenn Shields was the first was the first and only Navy Seabee to be awarded the Medal of Honor and the first sailor to receive the MOH for heroism above and beyond the call of duty in the Vietnam War. 

From his citation:

"Although wounded when the compound of Detachment A-342, 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne), 1st Special Forces, came under intense fire from an estimated reinforced Viet Cong regiment employing machine gun, heavy weapons and small arms, Shields continued to resupply his fellow Americans with needed ammunition and to return the enemy fire for a period of approximately three hours, at which time the Viet Cong launched a massive attack at close range with flame throwers, hand grenades and small-arms fire. Wounded a second time during this attack, Shields nevertheless assisted in carrying a more critically wounded man to safety, and then resumed firing at the enemy for four more hours."

TALES OF VALOR EP 36: Salvatore Giunta |  Medal of Honor recipient Salvatore Giunta and his team's engagement in Korengal Valley of Afghanistan truly inspired us. In a real life scene that lasted about 3 minutes, just telling the story had us feeling like it was 3 hours. The example Salvatore Giunta showed us about courage and commitment to his team is unlike any other. Thank you sir and thank you to the entire team.

TALES OF VALOR HALF-HISTORY: Stanislav Petrov | No, we're not talking about Jesus in this one (although maybe we should dedicate one to him at some point) but Soviet Lt. Col. Stanislav Petrov. On 9/26/83 he took decisive action that quite literally may have saved much of humanity at the time. What's really crazy is that's not the only instance of a close nuclear call. Wow. Just...wow.

TALES OF VALOR HALF-HISTORY: Daniel Inouye | Serving in the Rome-Arno campaign in 1944, Daniel Inouye and a historic segregated all-Nisei 442nd Regimental Combat Team served with absolute distinction. Daniel Inouye embodied valor amidst great personal sacrifice to his body in service to the men under his command and the greater purposes he saw in the conflict. As his injuries saw him getting carried away to spare his life, his order to the men was to return to their positions because "Nobody called off the war."

TALES OF VALOR EP 35: The Night Witches | Inspired and led by the young Marina Raskova, the Soviet Union's first female navigator and part of a record setting flight comprised of an all female crew, the 588th Regiment was born. Earning the nickname the Night Witches, they were an all female regiment that struck fear into the heart of Nazi Germany with its silent but deadly bombing runs in outdated and unprotected planes. What a story!
