Talk Jam Podcast

Episode 35 of Season 2 has two fun jams, starting with our Political Talk segment!

In today's Political Talk, we discuss gun control--which as Susan says, means hitting what you aim at. Of course, to other people, it means something very different. Kelly and Susan discuss their own experience with guns and the great importance of proper training, so you know what you're doing when you have one in your hand!

In our second jam, we discuss the extraordinary legacy of Susan's all-time favorite thriller writer, former champion jockey Dick Francis, who hung up his racing boots and started a career of writing thrillers that turned him into a legend. Hear what you can learn from a great writer--Susan's many reads of Dick Francis novels have taught her about architecture, art forgery, photography, wine appreciation, the breeding and selling of thoroughbred racehorses, how to transmit a virus (!) successfully, and many other subjects.  It's also taught her about plotting complex stories and writing as simply as possible, two lessons she's carried into her own writing career. Dick Francis is a storyteller second to none: we hope you'll look for his books and lose yourself in at least one of them! (All are still available on Amazon, but do avoid the ones written after 2012, as those were written not by him but by his son Felix, a good writer but nothing like his father!)

Today's episode of TALK JAM is sponsored by the audiobook of Kelly Fitzgerald Fowler's brilliant Biblical thriller, OVER MY DEAD BODY, read by New York Times best-selling author James L. Rubart:

Episode 34 of Season 2 introduces yet another important personality to our TALK JAM podcast!

In this episode, we interview the delightful Stuart Wakefield, English author and book coach for authors everywhere. Stuart has led a life that should inspire writers--from starting a career in fashion to moving on to theater, to doing a Master's in professional writing BEFORE he ever started writing his first book--DURING NANOWRIMO! And from there, he got into book coaching--accidentally--and it's now his full-time career (in between writing more books, of course).

Stuart's approach to working with writers is gentle, compassionate and endlessly supportive. Listen to his fascinating story about developing as a writer and a coach; we DARE you not to want to work with him!

TALK JAM EXTRA #5 is a jam-packed extra, with NO COMMERCIAL BREAK!

We talk about a number of topics in this extra:

1. Susan's brand-new Samsung Galaxy ZFold 3 phone--a phone and tablet in one!
2. A funny YouTube clip: This one will absolutely make you laugh! What are these kids THINKING?
3. Kelly talks passionately about an article she discovered by Florida attorney Jeff Childers, who lays out some persuasive arguments (which he CAN prove in court, with charts and graphs!) about Covid, plus a diatribe about the Spirit of Fear and how pastors in the US need to step up and take responsibility to lead their flocks! What the Church needs to know about COVID-19. The Jeff Childers article (20 min read but worth it):

Episode 33 of season 2 of TALK JAM has two jams

Jam 1 is about a happy topic: baseball and fantasy. What's not to love?

The Field of Dreams game, played by the White Sox and the Yankees on August 12th, near the site of the original Field of Dreams (from the movie of the same title), starring Kevin Costner. Watch them come through the corn, and try not to cry:

Jam 2 is about home-schooling, a topic Kelly feels strongly about.  She home-schooled her daughter for a year in high school and found the experience exhilarating. If you're interested in following the plan she followed--through Bob Jones University--reach out to the woman who can answer questions or accept orders: [email protected]. We think home-schooling is a great idea, and as time goes on, we hope more parents will embrace it.

Episode 32 of Season 2 of TALK JAM is JAM-packed!

In our first jam, we discuss the viral video of Physicians' Assistant Miguel Escobar, who spoke earnestly at a recent Texas school-board meeting about the information we're all getting about Covid, why the facts are so out of whack with the truth, and what we all need to know before deciding how to school our children in the near future. His words are powerful, and we've tried to verify a lot of his claims!

In our second jam, we talk about book marketing. Writing a book is great, but once it's published you HAVE to deal with marketing it, in order to sell any copies.  How do you do it? What are the best methods, and what's worked for us? Here's the first of what will probably be MANY conversations about how to market a book!

Episode 31 of Season 2 of TALK JAM features Mark Novak, precision-instrument specialist, who joins us for another exciting episode! When Mark talks, we always want to listen!

In this episode, Mark talks about his early career on a submarine--from watching it being built from the ground up to its first sea trials and beyond!

Mark also talks about how he's taught people how to learn, and how his father, a fighter pilot, taught him the fundamentals of how to learn as a very young child.

It's always entertaining having Mark in our studio; hope you enjoy this great conversation!!

Susan and Kelly talk about Andrew Cuomo's resignation (today!) from his seat as governor of New York. He said he'd never resign... but he has! What's behind it, we wonder?

The Most Interesting Man in the World--precision instrument specialist Mark Novak--returns to TALK JAM for another stimulating conversation! Today, he talks about his gunsmithing business, how he researches the old guns he's asked to restore, and especially, how he learned that a gun damaged in Hurricane Hugo and brought to him turned out to be a piece of genuine American history.

Don't miss this fascinating conversation--because when Mark talks, we should ALL listen!

Episode 29 of Season 2 is a treat! In this episode, we begin with a diet update (Susan has gone back to intermittent fasting and so far, it's been successful!) In our second jam, we discuss a topic most writers will appreciate: a writing exercise called Magna Carta, in which you list all the things you LOVE to read in a book, and all the things you HATE to read in a book--because by constantly referencing them, you'll end up writing a project you LOVE!

Hear our own Magna Carta lists and some stories about how we came to them! (And don't be surprised if we come back to this topic in the future!)

Episode 28 of Season 2 introduces a new type of segment on TALK JAM, where Kelly and Susan discuss their personal heroes and why they admire them so much.

Today is Susan's turn to kick things off, with a segment on Desi Arnaz, the man who created I LOVE LUCY, started a dance craze with the conga in the US, and who went from cleaning birdcages in Florida as a homeless refugee from his Cuban homeland to starring on Broadway, leading his own orchestra and marrying a bona fide movie star--Lucille Ball. And all this BEFORE I LOVE LUCY became a television legend! Desi Arnaz lived the American dream, in a way few of us ever get to do, and he's one of Susan's heroes. Hear why and how in this episode!
