August 01, 2020Workshop: Photography - See The LightEarning fine art status only a handful of decades ago, alongside that of painting and sculpture, photography is the study of light and image. It is the burning of reflection and form upon your mind, heart and soul. Whether using just your phone or employing the fanciest of high-tech gear... whether shooting for fun by grabbing an image of baby and dog, or capturing a landscape that would make John Muir proud, this accessible artform is at the same time democratic and profound. Guy Masse takes you on his "aperture lightship"... serving up a little bit of his own experience and pithy instruction. Expect a smattering of practical perspective in this rather compact podcast. Strap on your light-gathering companion, take a step over the threshold and see the world through the magical lens of the camera....more58minPlay
August 01, 2020Ice Storm - Paper RouteThe ice storm is to end all ice storms. We picked our papers up that cold icy wet February day... the roads were glazed with mirror ice and the paper delivery was in peril. Our usually happy, wealthy customers in this small section of Pawtucket we're somewhat miffed... to say the least. It's the story fortitude or lack thereof... the story of willful abandonment by the Ten Mile River. It's a poem of wickedly cold conditions. Redemption is on an epic scale. Be it cold rain or snow, the papers must go through, as the old saying goes....more1h 24minPlay

July 30, 2020Friendly Philosophy: The Glass Is Always Half-FullHost Guy Masse discusses the ways and means of life and existence as he takes on the heady subject in his Pawtucket, Rhode Island studio along with cohort and good friend Buckles Branigan, star of the so-mentioned western drama, via phone from Barstow, California. Life can be fairly complicated - agreed - but maybe there's a way to make living a bit less complicated in our everyday goings-about. Buckles brings his brand of philosophy to the show with humor, pithy comment and all around folksy perspective. Guy chimes in with his own suggestions for carving out a little bit of happiness. The promise of this podcast is to propose a road to life that makes each day look that much brighter. Part one of a series....more37minPlay
July 29, 2020Moving Day: Bungalow BeginningsTransplanting a family of eight from a Woodlawn tenement to a Darlington bungalow would seem like going from Earth to Mars but that's what happened in the summer of 1968 with the Masse family. My dad bumped out a wall to maximize a bedroom and removed a door to a stairway as well as other major improvements before we all settled in. This small house served as hard-working living quarters for our rather large family for many years. Join me as I take you on a journey to home improvement and the start of a new life in the suburbs of Pawtucket....more26minPlay

July 28, 2020Dreamscape: Nocturnal Storylines III offer up another overnight odyssey... this one set and "Darkwater" USA by a large company that combines Google, Apple and other overtake-the-world ventures. Many of my dreams are about dank, slinky elevators in supertall structures and this is no exception. My new proposed gothic tower will be a showcase at 2500 feet... with part of it submerged in dark water in the unworldly deep Providence River... dwarfing the rest of the city's skyline. A would-be friend shows me his model of my tower before construction and with me having final say - it is wrong - off balance somehow - with the elements askew but still looking somewhat like my work. We conspiratorially hide the fact that is wrong and put it back in its box... he goes back to the drawing board. When I talk to a class of flame drawers they are impressed by me but somehow I'm not getting through to them. I get mad at the girl students because they're into only commerce. I wake up but not before biting into a juicy, crunchy, long, polished, glossy fingernail....more10minPlay

July 25, 2020Animal Magnetism: The Perfect Pet CompanionPart two of "Animals" delves into the wonders of the critters that dwell among us. Host Guy Masse reminds us that our pets are smarter than we might think... even smarter still.... with inate abilities that include hearing sounds a split second before we do. As a small child, Guy played with his little pet chick but the bird got sick and died. Nicky and Claude's ducks were fine though - quacking and paddling away in our Pawtucket, Rhode Island tenement. We can learn a lot about ourselves through these constant companions. The lucky ones among us will be blessed with more than one loving animal in their lifetime and each of these creatures will earn a special place in our hearts. Enjoy this show before you develop an acute case of podcast separation anxiety....more22minPlay
