Transplanting a family of eight from a Woodlawn tenement to a Darlington bungalow would seem like going from Earth to Mars but that's what happened in the summer of 1968 with the Masse family. My dad bumped out a wall to maximize a bedroom and removed a door to a stairway as well as other major improvements before we all settled in. This small house served as hard-working living quarters for our rather large family for many years. I offer up another overnight odyssey... this one set and "Darkwater" USA by a large company that combines Google, Apple and other overtake-the-world ventures. Many of my dreams are about dank, slinky elevators in supertall structures and this is no exception. My new proposed gothic tower will be a showcase at 2500 feet... with part of it submerged in dark water in the unworldly deep Providence River... dwarfing the rest of the city's skyline. A would-be friend shows me his model of my tower before construction and with me having final say - it is wrong - off balance somehow - with the elements askew but still looking somewhat like my work. We conspiratorially hide the fact that is wrong and put it back in its box... he goes back to the drawing board. When I talk to a class of flame drawers they are impressed by me but somehow I'm not getting through to them. I get mad at the girl students because they're into only commerce. I wake up but not before biting into a juicy, crunchy, long, polished, glossy fingernail.

Part two of "Animals" delves into the wonders of the critters that dwell among us. Host Guy Masse reminds us that our pets are smarter than we might think... even smarter still.... with inate abilities that include hearing sounds a split second before we do. As a small child, Guy played with his little pet chick but the bird got sick and died. Nicky and Claude's ducks were fine though - quacking and paddling away in our Pawtucket, Rhode Island tenement. We can learn a lot about ourselves through these constant companions. The lucky ones among us will be blessed with more than one loving animal in their lifetime and each of these creatures will earn a special place in our hearts.
