It hardly seems fair to have to wait more than two years between a Nick Pope release. But here we are…and the wait was well worth it. The singer-songwriter is not only back with a new album, Wowed Me Out, he's returning to Talk Music Talk for his second visit. Overflowing with melodies, Wowed Me Out was partly inspired by childhood nostalgia and features interludes from Nick's family home videos from the 90s. [This episode features "Turned Ten" and "Holyoke" from Wowed Me Out in their entirety.]

On this prelude to a very special 200th episode, boice collects three of his favorite past episodes with music photographer Mel D. Cole and musicians Half Waif and Rue Snider.

Episode 026: To label Mel D. Cole a music photographer seems too thin a description. Yes, he was dubbed as one of Complex magazine's 50 Greatest Music Photographers. Yes, he's the "house photographer" of The Roots crew and Questlove hailed him as his favorite contemporary photographer. And of course, his exquisite black and white photos perfectly capture the performances of artists like Lauryn Hill, Nas and Common. However, Mel is equally adept at travel, nightlife and street photography. His talent is as immense as his creative choices regardless of the setting or subject. To see for yourself, visit him at his website http:// www.meldcole.com or on the blog http://villageslum.com

Episode 118: Isn't it the greatest gift when an artist shares their interior world through their chosen medium? An objective Nandi Rose Plunkett had decidedly been working towards through the experimental pop music of Half Waif. Half Waif is the solo project of the Brooklyn-based singer/ songwriter in which she eventually realized her intention with lyrics that have became more lucid and unguarded over the span of her recording career. The paring down of barriers to their core innocence. Since the 2011 inception of Half Waif, Nandi's released two EP's, two full-length albums and form/a, her stunning new EP consisting of six meditations that reflect on her childhood, relationships and the wages of bare honesty. [This episode includes "Frost Burn" and "Night Heat" from form/a in their entirety.] Visit Half Waif online: http://www.half-waif.com

Episode 166: Indie singer-songwriter Rue Snider's music is a feat of grit and perseverance. And while those are admirable traits, they might all be for nothing if they weren't backed up with a sheer talent for strong hooks. The Brooklyn-based musician's third full-length album, City Living, is the evidence with its inspiration rooted in a New York story of struggles and a love for 80s rock. [This episode features "Don't Lose Heart" and "Tripping on a Raft with Girls" from City Living in their entirety.] Visit Rue Snider online: https://www.musicbyrue.com

There's no such thing as too much glen E. friedman. The legendary photographer released three books in 2019. Expanded reissues of two classics: Keep Your Eyes Open featuring the Fugazi photographs and DogTown: The Legend of the Z-Boys (with C.R. Stecyk III) about the West Los Angeles skateboard scene from 1975-1985. Both titles are available from Akashic Books. The third, Together Forever (Rizzoli Books), features photos of Beastie Boys and Run-DMC. glen also shot the iconic album covers of Public Enemy's It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back and Beastie Boys' Check Your Head. glen's reputation was built on documenting the cultures of hip-hop, punk and skateboarding but his photography is far from simple snapshots; it's the work of an artist who possesses the craft to make you experience that singular moment his camera caught each and every time.

When Benny Benack III decided to pursue both singing and playing the trumpet, it meant jazz fans got the best of both worlds. Equally exciting at both, Benny hails from a musical Pittsburgh family. He's currently based in Harlem and is prepping the release of his sophomore album, A Lot of Livin' to Do, coming January 2020. Livin' is a mix of standards and Benny- originals that gets a seal of approval from Isaac Mizrahi, who scribed the CD liner notes. With all due respect, Mikey Buishas' solo project, 0 Stars, feels ill-named. That's actually a zero! The Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist has released one of the best of albums of 2019 with Blowing on a Marshmallow in Perpetuity. While its not-quite, half-hour playtime may feel slight, it more than makes up for the length with Mikey's fluid combination of endless melodies and complex musicality supporting his gently-bruised vocals. [This episode features "Round 2" from Blowing on a Marshmallow in Perpetuity in its entirety.]
