TALK TECH HIGHLIGHTS
TALK TECH MOMENTS
Elise: Make the decision to fail, and fail fast
“The other advice I would say is, that is super helpful, and it was helpful to me, to my career, is helping my teams at the time, but you can be in the team, make a decision to fail, and fail fast, and being decisive about this.”
Elise: Expect to fail, and give it a shot again
“Not expecting to fail is a little too cocky. Like, ‘ ‘Yeah, I'm going to be alright. I'm going to have it right the first time.’ ’ But it's setting it into the culture that is acceptable, and that is that the recognition of the failure is almost as important as the failure itself, it's the key now, you can beat your head against the wall so many times, and not really realize it hurts you, you should feel it the first time and give it a second shot, but don't give it 10 shots…”

“The emergence of these assets that are not tied to the hegemony of a country and I think of hegemony broadly. I mean, it can include culture, but it also includes military might.”
Christos: Digital assets and decentralization
“One of the interesting things about digital assets is that there actually is more collateral, oftentimes underlying the project because of the decentralization because of the consensus mechanism.”

TALK TECH MOMENTS
Craig - The power of a good presentation:
“Going back to the concept about anxiety - performance anxiety. That is a real thing for artists, but I feel like it's a real thing for entrepreneurs in general. The difference between securing a seed funding and not, truly is a good presentation.”
Soula - Excellence is not achieved alone:
“When you really want to excel on something, the first thing is you never do it alone. I didn't become the singer that I am on my own. Yes, I was born with the gift. I didn't cultivate the gift on my own, I had to take 1000s of hours of lessons.”

“Personally, I think it's your most successful if you do what you enjoy most, and for a time, I really enjoyed developing software myself, and then I simply enjoyed being able to go to management. Yes, I lost some of the connections to the technology, but it's so I could do many more things, I could influence more I could do design and drive things forward.”
Hartmut - The importance of user experience:
“I think the user experience is becoming more and more important, not just on smartphones and everything, but everybody expects it. So I think this is becoming a bigger, bigger part of developing and designing great solutions.”
Hartmut - Final thoughts for the listeners:
“Individuals, focus on what you can do well, and where you're fun and try to build it and evolve it. So don't sit on it and wait. But go there where you're good.”

Beth on exploring the world of technology:
“I really decided technology is where I wanted to be. There are grand dreams of working on Nike campaigns or Adidas and the big agency. Now I kind of decided, I'm gonna take a different path here, I'm going to explore technology”
Beth says to take risks and experience failures:
“Out of the box thinking is super important is be okay with failure, be okay with taking risks, I always say to my team, and when I look back at what worked, you have to fail fast, but it's okay to fail and know how to pivot.”
Beth wears different hats:
“I do enjoy wearing different hats. For me, it's all about learning, and learning inspires me.”
Beth’s experience in calling the shots:
“I was a point guard, which means, I was calling plays, I was calling the defense, I was making sure we're in the right formation, we're executing everything. So that is very much parallel to what the strategy looks like.”

You find humility or it will find you, simple, short, yet so deep. This is one of the many lessons we will get from Andrew Kerr, CEO & Managing Partner of FortyAU, and the author of “The Humility Imperative”. Join Craig Cartwright as he welcomes Andrew, and they will talk about creativity in the technology process and why humility is imperative for leaders, only here, in the latest episode of Talk Tech To Me.
HIGHLIGHTS
QUOTES
Andrew: “Technology is great, but you have to get humans to use it. Right. So that's really where I started my career in tech was with the government, trying to get people to pick up and use this new technology.”
Andrew: “That's something that we really strive for, we think is a differentiator, because when you come to our company, and you say, Hey, I've got a technical problem. We don't really care what language it is, because we think we can help almost anyone that's out there.”
Andrew: “When I say humility is imperative for leaders, I absolutely mean it, every leader needs to look at whatever your relative level of humility or arrogance is, you need to look at that and walk in the direction or maybe sometimes run in the direction of humility.”
Andrew: “If you can't continue to learn and take in new information if you think you've got it all figured out, you're the one who's going to be disrupted.”

And there's this amazing community in Tech where, you know, I've developed something, I want to share it with you, I want you to learn from what I learned, and take it make it your own.”
Kylie: “I've noticed with the pandemic and everyone moving to this virtual setting, even my team has benefited from having a completely remote team. So no longer are we limited to sourcing talent from the New York City area. Instead, we have the entire United States, we have all UK and Europe.”
Kylie: “I think groupthink can be sort of a dangerous thing to get into, especially in tech, because when you have teams of people working on a project and a data product together, the data product is the combination of all their minds together, right?”
Kylie: “My like advice to any data scientist is, to determine your code of ethics and work for a company that matches those. Yeah, yeah. And do your work that aligns with that.”
