EPI 52: ARE YOU GOOD? ft @janiellemckoy and @stacyannbuchanan
...the episode we have been wanting to do, we finally did and it is finally here! On this episode we talk to mental health advocate Stacy-Ann Buchanan and dyslexia advocate Janielle McKoy. Both are women that wear many hats but share the commonality of being advocates for things they have personally struggled with.
Throughout the conversation, they share their personal stories and experiences. Specifically, we discuss exactly what dyslexia is (what we thought we knew it to be is not it), and what it isn’t. We also discuss mental illnesses and mental health and what exactly that can look like, as well as the difference between depression and feeling depressed.
We are truly honoured to have both of these women on the pod. They give us insight on how to help people around us who may be struggling with a learning difference or a mental health issue. And we’re especially excited because both are of West Indian background so their stories are from people in our community, which is extremely important to us. In the West Indian or Black community, mental illnesses and learning differences can sometimes be viewed as stigmas and these two ladies have been working hard to change that. The more we talk about it, the less of a stigma it will become. We hope you gain some insight and feel just as inspired as we do.
Press play, and we hope you enjoy!
