This week on Talkin’ Shop Anthony Crawford is joined by one of Denver’s fastest rising comedic stars, Stephen Agyei. In this clip Anthony introduces the show and gives new comics a piece of advice.  Reminding them that even if they do a good standup set once or twice, that doesn’t mean they should stop working on those jokes.  There will always be room for improvement.

Anthony asks Stephen about his first time doing standup, and how well it went over. Stephen goes on to talk about his first couple experiences doing comedy.

Anthony asks how Stephen finds balance in his life between comedy, working out and his day job. Stephen talks about the importance of staying healthy as a comic.

Sam Tallent chimed in via Facebook live and asked Stephen Agyei how much he misses Sam since he moved to Las Vegas (less than a month before the taping of the podcast). Stephen went on to describe some fond experiences with Sam in the Denver comedy scene, and admitted that he does miss Sam a lot.

Christie Buchele dropped by Mutiny to Talk Shop with Anthony and Stephen. She asked Stephen if he could share some of the secrets to his success at moving up the list at Comedy Works quicker than any other comic in the club’s history.

Ladies & Gentlemen!! We have a Denver legend joining me at the table!!! Dr. Kevin Fitzgerald’s life may outshine his stand up career. I honestly don’t know one I’ll talk about more. He’s had one crazy life!!

Anthony started off the show with a word of advice to comics who are just getting started. Reminding them that no one cares how they do at first.  They should just embrace it and don’t rush to maturity. He encourages them to take the time to learn what makes them funny.

Anthony then asked Dr. Kevin Fitzgerald how he first got his start in comedy.

Fitzgerald use to send his jokes to Johnny Carson’s writing team back in the 60’s.  Anthony was curious how long it to took for them to use one of his jokes, and Dr. Kev shares a word of advice Johnny’s writing team gave him.

Dr.  Kevin Fitzgerald has been a professional comedian for over 30 years, but he’s also worked some other jobs and taken the time to become a doctor.  Anthony asks Dr. Kev to talk a little about his life outside of Comedy as a veterinarian and as a bouncer.

Chuck Roy wanted to know what Dr. Kevin Fitzgerald’s favorite memory from Red Rocks Amphitheater is.

Anthony was curious what profession is more nerve racking to Dr. Kevin Fitzgerald between being a veterinarian, a bouncer or a comedian.

As a long time Denver based comedian Dr. Kev has seen a lot of what the Denver comedy community has to offer.  He takes a moment to reflect on the local scene and touched on some of his favorite local comics.

Dave Caldwell is Denver’s number one comedy fan. He takes his comedy so seriously that he keeps a spreadsheet list of all the comics he’s ever seen, and it’s several hundred names deep. Dave shows Anthony his list, and Anthony reflects on how much it means to him to have Dave as a fan.

For those of you who have seen a few comedy shows in Denver, there is a good chance you’ve heard Dave Caldwell’s distinct laugh coming from the front row.  Anthony asks Dave what reactions different comedians have had to his laugh.

@benkronberg asked Dave which toilet he liked to poop in at Comedy Works?  He then added Ben wanted to know because he wants to poop where Dave poops.

@timmitown asked Dave what his favorite menu item is at Comedy Works.

Anthony was curious if always sitting in the front row means Dave gets spit on a lot.

One twitter follower asked, “Who is the cutest comedian Dave has ever seen?”

Dave has seen a lot of comedy shows in Denver over the years. Anthony wanted to know how he feels about Denver’s growing comedy community.
