Frank and Jason talk about the infinite world of variations this week! This episode is not as strict on terminology as other trick theory episodes due to the sheer infinity and informality of variations, which truly is a big part of what gives tricking its essence. We will discuss common variations, as well as some more uncommon ones, but this episode is in no way exhaustive! There is more nuance than many would expect despite lack of formality compared to other aspects of tricks so this episode is still very important for trick theory understanding.

Frank and Jason are joined by Isaia Gonzalez to discuss battles in Tricking! Battles are fundamental to tricking culture and they have been around basically as long as the sport has existed. In this episode, we discuss important talking points when moving forward with tricking as it becomes more and more mainstream. How do we maintain the spirit of Tricking as it moves onto National and even Olympic types of competitions? How should the battles be formatted so that we incentivize pushing the limits? Should we even consider a different style of competition that is not a 1v1 battle? We feel that these are the discussions that need to be had in order to move forward and ensure that tricking takes the right path as it inevitably becomes more and more mainstream.

Frank and Jason talk about the final transition type in the final (most likely not final) installment of transitions. This week discusses unified transitions which are transitions in which a unified takeoff or landing is included in at least some part of the transition. Related to unified transitions, we discuss unified tricks and how there is potential for two different models of looking at unified tricks, a two trick model, and a three trick model. Join us in this episode of discussing the intricacies of unified transitions. Below are the named transitions, and their foot placement numbers, with the 𝜋 symbol representing a two footed interaction.

Frank and Jason shift transitions to the sequential type in this episode. Sequential transitions are defined by transitions that use both feet, but never both of them at the same time (unified). Although these transitions are more technical, they are more simply defined than single leg transitions in that they use foot ordering as the determinant of what the transition is. Below are all of the sequential transitions and their respective foot patterns. Note that a 1 represents the first foot that touches down while a 2 represents the second foot that touches down, independent of whether it is the left or right foot.

Frank and Jason return with some trick theory knowledge, specifically, they will be discussing transitions. Transitions will be split into three episodes; single leg, sequential, and unified. The boys start out with single leg transitions, which is exactly what it sounds like! Transitioning from one trick to another using only a single leg. There are three ways to divide types of single leg transitions; swings, non-swings, and carrythrough is in it’s own category. These can be further subdivided to get to specific types of swings or non-swings.
