Ray Harrington shares his profound connection with light, describing it as the essence of life itself. He discusses how light influences our emotions, creating uplifting experiences on sunny days and casting a shadow on our moods during dull weather. As a visual artist, Ray strives to capture the magic of light on canvas, drawing inspiration from impressionists like J.M.W. Turner, the French masters, and the Australian Heidelberg school. His work is a celebration of light's symbiotic relationship with pigment, bringing color and emotion to life.
David Newman-White delves into his artistic journey, heavily influenced by the Baroque period. He draws inspiration from masters like Caravaggio, Vermeer, Ribera, Velazquez, and Rembrandt, who used light and shadow to create dramatic, lifelike portraits. David's fascination with anatomical drawing and the use of contour lines to define bone structure in portraits is evident in his work. He emphasizes the importance of character over beauty, referencing modern portrait artists such as Stanley Spencer, Paula Rego, Lucian Freud, Frank Auerbach, and Jenny Saville.
