Welcome to the Talking Spirits Podcast #14, the first episode of Season 2. My guest today is my dear brother, the American maestro vocalist Dean Bowman.

Dean and I go back a very long time as we met in 2006 on Myspace, after I have been a fan of his for some time already.  In 2007 we founded the band “Little Rock Nine”, and had lots of fun making music together.

While the band went on a hiatus in 2009 when my band Royal Street Orchestra came together and became a focus for me, we are still friends and will definitely do some more music together in the future…

In our conversation we are talking about the impact of Covid-19 on Dean´s life, his “tenure” as the original vocalist of David Fiuczynski´s Screaming Headless Torsos, his very diverse body of work, which includes working together with highly acclaimed musicians such as John Scofield, Don Byron, Lester Bowie and many more, being a vocalist, why Jazz can be a white racist word, and many more highly interesting topics…

Hallo und herzlich willkommen zu Talking Spirits Podcast #9,

mein heutiger Gast ist ein für mich ganz besonderer, nämlich der Wuppertaler Musiker, Musikpädagoge und Networking-Experte Björn Krüger.

Als ich in den 90er Jahren meine ersten Schritte als Musiker machte, war Björn einer von den Wuppertaler Musikern zu denen ich aufgeschaut hatte, weil er genau die Sachen gemacht hat, die ich mir für mich selbst immer sehr gewünscht hatte.

Im Laufe der Jahre haben wir uns dann kennen gelernt und angefreundet, und haben mittlerweile sowohl sehr viel Musik zusammen gemacht als auch das eine oder andere edukative Projekt zusammen durchgeführt.

Ich übertreibe jedenfalls nicht wenn ich sage dass ich Björn unheimlich viel zu verdanken habe.

Im ersten Teil des am 13.04.2020. aufgenommenen Gespräches sprechen wir über Björns Entscheidung nicht mehr als Musiker auf Tournee zu gehen und stattdessen lieber eine Ausbildung zum Erzieher zu machen, über den von ihm gegründeten Wuppertaler Kulturkindergarten und über die Situation junger Menschen im heutigen Bildungssystem.
